Well, several weeks ago, my poor judgement caused me to move my boat on a very windy day, from a temp dock to our permanent one. I got all crossed up with the wind , and ended up striking our newly constructed dock.

OUCH....looks like the boat says "Our Winns" with the lost F....

I read your post about the incident on another board. I feel your pain. I know the fiberglass repair will be almost unnoticible, if that. Did you get a replacement "F"? It would have been so easy to have built those docks in a more boater friendly fashion!

If you want to make an attempt on your own, =MiniCraft supplied Four WInns the gelcoat. You can go to their website,but the year oan model of your boat in and they will send you what you need to repair. I even believe they have it in a spray can. They have always been pleasent and very helpful on the phone.

From what I can see, fill it in with some martex to almost the surface, spray the gelcoat and then it's just a matter of wet sanding in increments to 2000 grit, rubbing compound, polish and wax. Just takes time and elbow grease.

Mini-craft offers a couple of two day courses on gelcoat repair, fiberglass repair and fiberglass fabrication. Each is about $800 or so. I was contemplating taking the Cosmetic Gelcoat and tinting class. I figured I could recoup the $s with the repair of my next boo-boo. In addition, the current rate for gelcoat repair around here is over $75 per hour. I may be able to make a bit of boating side money.

It's not that bad.
You just send it out a little and use many coats of gel.
I did the repair on Fling when we kissed the CONCRETE dock
I really like the gel-coat turned out great, like new.

The boat is repaired. I will pick it up tonite, the service manager says it looks like new. We will see
Worked on the dock off and on over the week, finished it last nite. It should be a major improvement from it's previous state. I'll post some pics as soon as I get a chance.

Ya think they would have noticed the Four was different then the Winns when they installed it. Otherwise it looks great Cap'n.

The dealer has still not replaced the "FOUR". He promised to do it Thursday, and then again Friday. He will get a call from me this morning. Not a good way to conduct business IMO.

Looks like they did a pretty good job with the fix. It happens to the best, most experienced boater. IMO if you never leave the dock, those things don't happen. Wear it as a badge of honor!
