Ok friends... We sold our 2008 V378 IPS and are tossing a few ideas around on what to order...as much as we would love to order a V435, we are still struggling in RI to sell big boats... so the new V375(V358) is an option. However we are stuck on how to power it so I'm turning to you guys for a feel on what you would rather have.... for basically the same price we can equip the boat with twin Volvo D4 diesel inboards with a bow thruster -OR- we can go with thwin Volvo 5.7 GXi with sterndrives and the Volvo Sterndrive Joystick. So you either can get the range out of the diesels or you can have the manuveurability of the IPS... as a 30 yr old male I'm joystick all the way... any thoughts?? |

My vote (as an old man) goes to diesel powered inboards. |

My $.02: I'm not that old...and bow thrusters are adequate for manuvering much bigger boats than ours. I'd have diesels in my 278 if it weren't so cost-prohibitive. My next boat will have them, although it will be much bigger - my wife says at least 42':) How she arrived at that I don't know but why would I ask why? |

For a boat staying in the water, I'm thinking diesel inboards... |

I have a V358 with pre-joystick GXi 5.7 sterndrives, but on a non-trailerable saltwater boat, I would get inboards. Especially considering the plastic sterndrive is gone and the Volvo and Mercruiser dual props still have occasional corrosion problems. Beside ocean guys love diesels and inboards, even with v-drives. Of course they'll all thump their chest about not needing a bow thruster, but secretly love the fact that it is there. In fresh water I would not even think about v-drives. To damn slow. |

Diesels. Think about adding a hydraulic swim platform and stern thruster as well. Any chance you could skip the raymarine and install Garmin electronics with an autopilot? |

Yes Cap'n even with the no sales tax we are still among the high unemployment rate states in the US. Although I can't complain recently.. in the months of June and July we have sold all of our leftovers... both '10 180 LE, '10 H190, '08 H200ss, '10 F224, '10 V338, and '08 V378... now we are just waiting on some new product. The showroom is looking lonely with only 2011 V285 and F224. |

Hang in there, new boats are starting to ship from Cadillac with more frequency. I saw a semi trailer of 5 shrink wrapped boats on the highway heading east just yesterday. None were cruisers however. |

I think in the super long run, a diesel will have better resale value. |

Diesels, not even a debate. Better fuel consumption figures while you own it and then better resale on the back end. A thruster is perfectly adequate, but the torque from the twin diesels might make it unnecessary. Nice to have though. |

Twin diesel inboards with or without bow thrusters. A little more money to maintain, but far more efficient and better resale value. |
