Just a short message to say of the absolutely great service from VP, i had problems with my 2008 358 with 300Hp OSi VP engines and drives (XDP) and after a little time Volvo Penta have completely stepped up to the plate and replaced both drives and transom plates (complete drive assemblies) with brand new DSP-A units. I had to pay a little but Thank you to VP.

That's great to hear! Are those the new OceanX Drives or just the DuoProp?

What problems did you have?

Most of the 318s I see for sale have the XDP drive and I won't even consider them due to the problems.

The new DSP-A i was given the choice and had seen some bad comments on the Ocean X and none on the new version of the DSP-A they where redesigned in 2007/8. They have an integrated trim pump and alot sleaker and 10Kgs lighter. XDP numerious but the big problem was cracking around the gimbal bearing causing water to enter the bellows area and than sieze the bearing, but the cracking was bad, no idea how long it would have lasted before completely failing. I would suggest anyone with XDP or is even thinking of buying a boat with XDP be very very carefull. I did alot of research and on other owners websites, Forumula,Regal, Chapperal,boatus, iboats and there are many many problems listed even sinkings. As VP have treated me so well i will not dis them, but they know they have a problem. It would appear that it only seems to happen to larger boats say above 30Ft, maybe they should not have been fitted to large heavy cruisers. I beleive they where designed for sport fishers like Prolines etc,i think in that application and smaller day boats they will be fine so i think the boat builders should shoulder some blame, depends what VP advised them.
