I've got the drop down 10.4" KEC TV next to the galley in my cabin. I'm going to go ahead and replace it with a 19" tv, most likely mounted on the head wall. I've given thought to mounting it above the aft cabin entrance....not sure if I like it there though.

What's a good tv to hardwire it in as a 12V? I know Best Buy has an Insignia as well as some Samsung, whereas Walmart has Vizio. This TV will be the first flat panel TV I've bought so advice would be much appriciated.

Then I also need a good sturdy mount. What's the best one out there?

When it comes to the cables from the DVD player and the coax I plan on just running them under the shelves and around the bow to the head.....or just behind the galley.

I'd like to get this project all wrapped up next week. With that being said I will soon have the 10.4" KEC drop down TV up for sale....

Are you looking at a standard LCD TV or marine grade? I'm not sure it really matters if you don't live in a salt water enviornment though. One advantage of the marine TVs is they typically come with a 12v adapter. We bought a marine grade (forget the brand) 15" combo LCD/DVD player for about $200 off of Amazon and it works great. It came with adaptors/plugs for both 110 and 12v use. Some friends of ours purchased a 19" Skyworth DVD/LCD combo and they've been very happy with their TV as well.

As for mounting, I hard mounted ours to the front of the v berth using a $25 mount from Best Buy. The mount also has a security bar that you can lock to keep the TV in-place. We've hit some pretty rough water with it and it's never moved.

What a surprise

Go with a TV/DVD combo to avoid the DVD wiring that is unnecessary. Marine grade is not needed for your environment.
Not sure if I would bother with the 12V option either. You have a gen set for a reason. Keep the 10" TV and mount in the mid cabin
for your kid and a PS3.

Only issue is what to do with the KEC tv and the hole in the headliner....

What's your plan for "the hole" ?

The plan is to get a new trim ring and install it where it was. The drop down is currently installed using a trim ring so I'll just replace that one with a new one that doesn't have a hole in it.

Got it done tonight. Would have been done two days ago but thats what I get for buying a cheap mount. After following a friends advice, I purchased the Sanus VMFL1 mount. VERY nice mount!

All in all, not to much money, and a great improvement. You can see the TV from anywhere seated in the V-berth or lying down. It's hardwired to the boats 12V system, no inverter needed. Still uses the existing DVD player, and TV antenna thats in the cabin ceiling.
