Should we purchase the extended warranty on our Volvo Penta 5.7GXi 320hp? Is on our new 278 Vista.

P.S. The cost is $1,130.

Dave, these are like 80% profit for the dealer. Same deal as the "extended warranty" they push at Best Buy or Sears. You can add it later without a problem. Any dealer will sell you one. Shop around, you should be able to get it for considerably less $. The Volvo 2+ extended service contracts are generally done through FPC (at least mine are) Disclaimer, Volvo gave me mine on both engines when I had the oil line issue on my port engine for my trouble. I believe I paid $550 for the one I had on my 2000 248 Vista (5.7)

I believe if you let him know that these are a BIG PURE profit center for him and ask for a good deal on it or you'll look into getting one later he'll come down considerable. A bird in the hand is better than two in the bush!

Thanks! That is what I thought, but just wanted to check.

The place we bought our boat is not real close to where we will be keeping out boat. Does it make more sense to buy the extended warranty from someone close to where we will be keeping out boat?

Other than using it to create a bit of a relationship with them, nope. The way it works is whoever goes to do the repair will have to diagnose the problem and then submit a claim to see if it will be approved and paid. If so, your liable for the deductible. If not, the whole shooting match is yours.
