Well pulled the trigger after successful sea trial, punch list agreed to, and transportation plan worked out! Should ship to us in MN in the next 10 days, and then promply be reassembled and stored for the long winter! :( But, we are excited to be moving into the 40' range of boat, and looking forward to IPS and diesels. Anyone have any tips, things to watch for with the IPS or VP Diesel D6 engines? I hope that everybody has a good winter season. I dont have my pics uploaded yet, but if anyone is interested in seeing her, here is the link: http://www.boats.com/boat-details/Four- ... /116205211

So did Fire buy your 318 then ? Anyway, congrats on the 378. Not positive, but you may be the only member
with greater than 2 posts that has IPS drives on this board. It's going to be a real long winter for you in anticipation
of using the new boat. Beautiful boat, and you will not regret going with the D6's and IPS..... EVER.

Capn, nope Fire did not buy it. Worked hard at the negotiation and final numbers, got what we needed on trade it, and we were able to make the deal. The sea trail was remarkable, unbelievable how quiet the 378 with IPS and diesels is! We had a conversation at the helm in normal voice, never been able to do that on our 318Vista. Anyway, after sea trail had 4 items on punch list to fix, and 2 item we purchased that need to be done. Punch list: 1. Cockpit floor lights did not come on 2. my wife's $200K vacuum cleaner would not work (central vac) 3. Hot water heater needed new heating element 4. Battery compartment cover was jammed closed. Things we bought...travel cover (original owner stored indoors so never needed) and had the engine sea strainers upgraded with Volvo-Penta recommended replacement part. Other than that, it is all good to go. My only remaining issue is, the original owner was wealthy and this boat was basically just turn key for them, and they did not keep any of the systems manuals or stuff!  :x So I am in the process of re-building the library of manuals from various manufacture websites. Starting with Four Winns, will send in warrenty transfer this week, and they said they would send us a new boat manual...then onto raymarine, Volvo, etc...

Sweet Bob, congrats, glad it all worked out for you.
I am going to PM you my buddy's email address that I told you has the 4460 regal with diesel's and IPS.
I am sure he would be glad to answer any questions you might have

Congrats Bob!!!

We were looking at an '07 318 in Hammond over the weekend and discussing how your boat would be a better fit for us.

Congrats Bob! Great get. It's a bit hard to tell from the pix... is that the baby blue hull?
It will be great to have an active pod drive owner on the board. Several of the boats I'm looking at these days have em'.
I have been trying to learn as much as possible about diesels as my next boat will have them and the mantra I am always hearing is that they like (and need) to be run and, with some regularity, run hard. I ran my friend's Silverton 45 Convertible this weekend and boy, did it like to be pushed.

Looking forward to seeing more of your own pix and again, congratulations 8)

Sierra, the pics dont do it justice. It is a white hull, with copper acent tape at the water line, it has black canvas...so pretty sharp combo. I am both excited and a bit nervous about the IPS system. It will make boating easy for the admiral, but I hear that they can have issues as well. I am in the process (same as you) of learning all I can about the diesel engines, owner/operator maintenance, pre/post use inspection checks, etc... This is my first jump into the diesel engine arena. I have heard the same thing, run the diesels hard, and treat them right and they will last for ever. When we sea trialed this boat, the engines got this thing moving 43 MPH in 2-3 foot chop! It was pretty impressive how smooth and responsive the boat is with those engines and IPS drives. Hope the boat arrives in the next 2 weeks, so we have time before the snow flies to get the hard top reassembled.

I hear you on the concerns with the technology, although I've heard much more about issues with Axius than IPS or Zeus. Part of my information quest includes this thread on another forum which you may find interesting/reassuring. Weed through the ignorant posts and you'll see reports from actual owners.
Are you (relatively) near someone who will be able to service the systems? That is one of my major concerns.

Our marina has Volvo techs, but they are not IPS certified. There is a Fourmula dealer about 50 miles from us that sell new 40' and bigger Fourmula PC's and they are equipped with IPS drives...so assuming worst case I would need to contact them for service. Our lead VP tech also said that he would be interested to go get the training as they will start seeing more boats with the systems. So we will see!
