It should go into the shower sump. Its under an access cover in the half closet. Its a bummer to access though. |

Thanks Jeff. After I got myself into the closet as far as I could, I could see it going to the sump, barely! Just making sure its not draining into the forward bilge and helping to create the smell I'm getting. |

fire...how is it going to drain "up" and into the bow? The fumes you smell are a danger. Any gas smell is a potential explosion. If it were me...I would get it corrected before that boat is used again. |

WD-Its not a gas smell. Hard to describe...could be mold/midlew that just wasn't cleaned away. |

If that your case the sump could overfill and leak into the forward bilge. |

Thanks. I do not have an issue with water in the bilge....just an off odor. I suspect there eas some mold or narly growth left in my boat from when we bought it (it sat for two years). I cleaned it out good again and left some febreeze soaked towels in my forward bilge. We'll see what happens when I pick her up in the spring. |

What I found on my 258, there is a void underneath the forward bilge floor. About 2 inches between the floor of the bilge and the hull. Theres no access to it, the only way I and the other 258 discovered it was by removing the shower sump and water came up through the screw holes. I sucked out about 6 gallons. |

Just re-read that thread. That could be my problem. Where is you shower sump located on your 258? On my 268 it is below the hanging locker, which is on the starboard side of the boat just aft of the head but before the aft cabin. I'm not sure if its screwed down...I've never had it out. But with that being said, I want to pull my forward bilge pump and see if any water comes up from those screw holes which hold the base down. Kind of concerning if that's my issue.....we showered onboard every weekend, and my boat is in cold storage until spring. I may have to try and get access to it before it really gets cold out. |

My shower sump is accessed from a panel in the middle of the main cabin floor. In front of the door to the head, and where you stand when cooking (in front of the refrigerator). The shop vac sucked through the screw hole. It's scary, what if that water froze? I did the same as the other 258, installed a screw type plate, he went with stainless, I found a plastic one much easier to cut. I bought a new hole saw, still a tough cut through marine plywood, and you sure don't want to go beyond, I would have been into the keel going an extra half inch. Stick a nail down the screw hole to gauge depth. I've sucked it a couple times since. I can't imagine how common this must be. I'm currently suspecting water intrusion from the anchor compartment. |

Got it. I did a search on FW site....your shower sump is located where my forward bilge pump is. I'll have to pull the pump and see if any water comes up. I doubt my shower sump box is bolted down since its in a different location... |

I just replaced my shower sump in my 2000 Vista 268, it was under the hanging locker and was held in with a Velcro strap. A real bugger to get at. I am curious about what you find beneath the front bilge pump. Please keep us informed as to what you find, as I know that I have been chasing a musty smell and water in my bilges for months now.
