Post subject:  Gas Strut for '98 258 Vista

Greetings from the UK, there doesn't seem to be many brits on this forum ! The Gas strut
in the companionway on my '98 258 Vista is shot, and I'm struggling to source a replacement.
The number on it is SL 16 10, I believe the 10 is the strength. I've looked on the official Four
Winns site, and it suggests this part is SL 16 20. I've queried this but not had a response.
Any advice/comments anyone ?
Thanks in advance
Chris

Welcome to the forum. If all else fails try http://www.albert-jagger.co.uk they come in all different sizes and strengths some are are adjustable by releasing the gas through a valve. NOTE if you do get an adjustable one take it very easy letting the gas out!! They are amazingly cheap compared to what a boat dealer will want.

Where abouts in the UK are you?

You have to buy FW parts through FW dealers, I have tried to buy some small items from them but all they will do is give me the name of my closest dealer.

This is where I always buy gas struts when I cant buy from the original manufacture:

http://www.spdhardware.com/catalog/list.asp?id={A818FF64-E51A-422F-A59A-4E2E52A3BDA2}

Easiest to find a FW dealer in the UK that would order one for you.

Many thanks for the info guys, will follow up.

I'm only 40 miles from you Beyond the Blue, but it's White Rose Country, Sheffield !

Boat is moored inland on River Great Ouse in Cambridgeshire, not tidal at that point. Max

speed limit 7 mph, need to study for my Navigation Certificate so I can head out to the Wash.

Thanks again.
