I have imported a 2009 278 vista to Australia,and will need to convert the shore power from USA to Australian.
Does anybody know the most efficient way to do this??

I think you are best to talk to some of your local folks. The boat will be set up for 120V 60 Hz single phase...You need? probably will involve some kind of transformer that you will plug into your dock pedestal or? I'm not strong on electrical so hopefully somebody else will chime in... Most of the Oz guys that hang here have bowriders... welcome to the Forum.

Oz is the same as the UK - 240V 50Hz, so some of the UK guys may be able to help out as well based on their experiences.

My suggestions - short term a big transformer. Longer term go over each applicance - a lot of them will be 12V and have some sort of stepdown transformer on them. May be a simple as change the 120V to 12V with 240V to 12V...

Hi

I agree with Alec. But remember, if you do change your boat over to 220V, you will also need to change out your AC panel. A five amp breaker at 120v IS different that one at 220V.

wire one of these into the shore power, lots easier and cheaper than converting the whole boat.

Hi to all

That transformer maybe the way to go!! Cons: It's wight is 58lbs, and it is not small. It is going to get warm, so it needs to be in a place were air can flow around it. BUT, it would be the cheapest & simplest way out.

hi, I am in the 'same boat' if you will pardon the pun, - having an imported 268 from USA to Australia. I have talked to some of the sparky's around the marina and they reckon I need a 1500 - 2000 watt Inverter.

Steve, if you got the boat from the US then it is set for 110V, and Oz is 240V, so you need to step down 240VAC to 110VAC for which you need a simple step down transformer. An inverter is actually used to step up 12VDC to 240VAC for example so you can run your drinks blender in your car! :D

I do not know where you are, but if Dick Smith in Tasmania the door. So when you come to the United States, you can go to Radio Shack (they are located everywhere) and they have them. You can also look on ebay.com.au and might be able to find one. As I had the opposite problem and was told it seems to work like all my devices if the devices are rated A 240W will work and they only need a plug converter. Check it out for sure.

Try googling 'transformer 240v to 110v' lots of local results. Shows a 2000W transformer for under $500. Much cheaper than converting everything on the boat. Hope this helps...

Not sure if your sorted but going through this process now on a vista 348. There r a few options. Depends really if you want to have your gpo's converted to oz plugs (and 240) or just step the shore power down at the marina or home. I am opting for the first option which enables you to have oz plugs/ appliances while existing aircon, fridges, charges remain at 110. Offshore the gender still puts out 110 but inverts the circuit for the appliances to 240. Otherwise tortech have a 3500 watt (ample) step-down transformer that can be wired in but merely drops the oz 240 to 110 but gpo's will still be us and you can use a adaptor.

Depends on the gear in the boat, but many newer devices have the ability to use either 110 or 220. Sometimes through a different power cable or a setting on the device. You'd have to check with each manufacturer to see if that model supports being changed.

I used two of these on my 2008 358 Vista , hard wired works very well.
They both site inside where the power comes into the boat. I bonded them in.
