Hi

The exhaust pipe on my genset is choked. Tech says that he needs to lift the starboard engine to access the pipe and clear the choke. It looks to be a major job.

Are there any options?

I don't have a 288 so I couldn't say for sure. But there are usually ways to get to all normal maintenance things without requiring major disassembly. Whether or not this particular part of the genset can be accessed is a good question. On our 348 it's a royal pain in the ass to get to the outside of the genset but it CAN be done. By pulling the electrical switch panel above it and having very long arms and tools.

I'd wonder if the same sort of effort could be used to deal with your situation. I may well be easier and more profitable for a mechanic to yank everything out and do it all in the comfort of a workshop. But that doesn't mean it can't be done while still in the boat, albeit while having to contort like a bilge monkey to get to it all...

So, can someone else with this model of boat chime in here?

I have an 07 288. If yours is anthing like mine, you will need a height challanged person on the edge of anorexia. I couldn't change my impeller. I had to get a skinny person with long arms and a mirror to do mine. What a stupid setup. Had they moved forward a bit.
