I'd like to do occasional crabbing off my 258. The only place I've got room would be to use the bow. I'm thinking if there is a bow pad replacement-heavy duty-for protection. I don't want to waste the FW pad, maybe something custom. Has anybody tried this? Any ideas?

If I had to guess I'd lean toward having a canvas cover made. There are lots of grades of canvas available, perhaps even made from more than one layer of material. Maybe even some sort of harder lining in-between for additional protection of the gelcoat.

I've considered having a cover made for our bow cushions. Mainly to avoid them getting too much exposure and save us the hassle of taking them down all the time. But I don't think I'd go with a cover over them with the expectation of then putting crabbing gear on top of it. The crush effect on the foam would be a problem.
