While at the Toronto boat show I finally purchased a great davit system for our 298. I've had my eye on this one for over a year now and at a total cost of $2200 (CDN) for everything, I put my deposit down for pick up in the spring. Its all stainless construction and easily lifts a 10 - 12ft hardbottom dinghy level with 15hp and all accessories still on board. Other units I looked at were over $5000 and took up substantial swim platform space. If anyone else is interested heres their link http://www.dinghycaddy.com/products.htm ![]() ![]() |

Planealternative, now that you have the system installed, how do you like it? Does it fit and work will on your 298 Vista? Any pics, or updates? |

Absolutely love it! ![]() ![]() ![]() This has to be the best, easiest to use davit system out there. Installation was a breeze and took about 2 hours which in my case included the removal of the old "Weaver" system. The quality of workmanship is outstanding and the hardware and materials are all top shelf. I would highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a davit system. They also have options which will enable you to use it as a BBQ mount and/or a swim ladder when dinghy not attached. Plane, thanks for the update, this might just be what we will be looking for in the future. I really like how it still allows for your swim platform to be functional! Thanks again for the pics and opinion. Bob |

I have the exact same davit installed on my 318. It holds a 10 foot 150lb RIB with a 80lb Yamaha 15hp plus 6 gallons of fuel with no issues what-so-ever. I used it all last year to provide a platform for pulling the kids on a tube without using the 318. Things to note: The outboard can be stored in the fully down position while main boat is in motion. Always pull the plug in the dinghy to prevent rain water from filling it and stressing the davit. The system is extremely strong but I am not sure it would hold an entire dinghy filled with water! ![]() For any U.S. purchasers, the davit system is DUTY FREE the US tariff that states the duty rate is 0% for the product is 8425.19.0000 Just go to the following website: http://rulings.cbp.gov/ and place the number above in the search field. The tariff will be either of the top two listings. I picked mine up from the Toronto boat show in 2010 and hauled it back. It fit nicely in the back of a full size SUV. Sorry the signature pic was from 2009 before Dinghy Caddy. |

I also had the optional connection ring for a winch added for when I get.... ahem, a little older. ![]() |

Do you have any pics of your platform without the dinghy on it, but with the davit hardware? |

Sorry I don't have any pic's of mine without the dinghy but if you zoom in on the 1st pic from their website in my post at the beginning of this thread you should be able to see the mounts. Try checking out their website... theres a video of it in action and more pictures there. http://dinghycaddy.com/index.htm One more thing... when its not in use for the dinghy, the whole unit rotates over the back of the swim platform and into the water leaving your platform wide open. It can also be completely removed by removing 2 pins leaving only the 2 low profile mount plates. Oh and by the way, I am in no way connected or associated with this company or its operators. I just think they make a terrific product. |
