As we near boating season, I am making my mental checklist and this would be year three on my current impellers. My gut says its time to replace. I have always heard two years is OK and I would prefer not to push it.

I have the Merc MX6.2 MPI with Bravo3. From the quick research I have done, changing the impellers is not as easy as the Volvo I had previously. Access to the water pump is tight and people have recommended pulling the whole pump to change the impeller. I would rather get this done before we launch.

Has anyone else changed these? Any advice? Not sure if I should post this under Vista or under Engine & Drives.

I had mine replaced in the fall after 3 years and the tech said they still looked ok. However, I have had an impellar go bad before and it took that tech an extra 1/2 hour to pick all the broken blade pieces out ($). It really depends on how much you use your boat because rubber doesn't like being stagnant. Sounds like you have gotten good use out of yours though.

I would replace it just for the peace of mind. If you are like me, every time I'm on the lake, I will be thinking about it.

I vote to replace. I have been throwing a new one in mine every year, and just keeping the old as a spare. Sure beats changing it in a hot engine compartment. We lost a genset impeller in Hammond late last season and it was HOT working in there!
