Post subject:  248 Second Bilge Float Switch
Anyone out there know what the second float switch in the engine compartment is for? When I activate the switch (manually) nothing happens. I assume it is a high water alarm float but I don't have an indicator on the dash and don't hear anything when I activate it.

I see you have a 2003 and beachbob has a 2008 and you both have the extra float switch in the bilge. My 2006 doesnt have one I can see, where is it exactly?

I have an extra one too. I have one next to the bilge pump (of course) and one next to the raw water valve that feeds into the A/C on the port side. It is not connected to anything.

All I can think of is that it was at one time connected to (or intended to be connected to) an audible high water alarm. Placement is perfect for it in my boat given its proximity to the through hull, the A/C water pump.

Could be a high water level alarm for you Sea Key. Have one in my 05, V268.

It could be (a high water alarm for the Sea Key). It is located on the port side between the engine and the water heater just above the A/C filter/pump. I picked up a high water alarm (but haven't installed it yet). Glad to hear I'm not the only one who has "an extra float" but the Sea Key does make sense.

I've got one in mine also. But I did disconnect the Sea Key as I don't use it and it could potentially drain the battery.

I have spent several hours trouble shooting that switch under the assumption that it should trigger the same alarm used for low oil pressure. It is nice to know that none of them work. The wiring diagram is woefully vague on this detail.

If you have the system already installed on your boat, it's $29.99 per month.
The entire system costs about $2,000.

It's already installed on my boat, but as I think about it, a satellite linked notification under a covered slip is worthless. Now if someone came up with a wifi based system that would link to the marina's router and send me a notification, that might have some value.

Works with wifi and 3g (sends (status) and receives (programming / status request) text messages). Monitors high water, temperature, motion, etc.

An no ... I have no affiliation with the maker. My slip neighbor has one and is very pleased.

Very nice. I got real excited, until I saw the price. It does look like a nice piece of hardware though.

Yep. Occasionally they run sales. You can get the system for just over $1k.

Someday I'll get one. My slip neighbor is a rather, ahem, clumsy fellow. 3 times he has cleaned his A/C strainer out, got distracted, closed the hatch kicked on the A/C and left the marina.

And all 3 times the Boat Nanny texted him that his bilge was filling up with water. He was able to get back and correct his mistake before major damage was done.

His ROI was instant.

Both seem like pretty cool gadgets. I was going to give SeaKey a call to see if they offer a month-to-month service. I doubt I would need my high water alarm or an electronic fence when it's on a trailer in my back yard.
