If anyone in the general Annapolis, Baltimore, DC, Northern VA, DE area is in the market for a V298, one just appeared for sale up the street from me. It's the same broker I purchased both of my boats through. No, I'm not related to him and I don't work for him. But he's a stand-up guy who's been great to us (and several of our friends) and I'd be happy to send someone his way if there is anyone in the market. I don't have any details on the boat yet other than's it's white (no hull band) and looks like it has been lift kept (no bottom paint). It just arrived in the past 3 days or so and he hasn't set the price on it yet. If anyone is interested let me know and I'll get his contact info to you.

We're a few years out. And for the price difference, it doesn't make sense to do a 298 when a 328 could be had for just a bit more. The next boat most likely won't be trailered.

Seen this one yet ??? Offer 43K and I bet it's yours. :)
Even has AC/Heat, windlass, tan cabin upholstery thankfully, only 5.0L engines I think, but they are adequate for the 298.

Looks like it has the upgraded option of "Captains Navy" interior.......

Pictures near the bottom of the link that Cap'n provided show engines as 5.0 GI's.

Mike.

That 2001 isn't a bad looking boat, but it is entering at least it's second winter covered only with it's camper canvas(canvas in very poor cond). It hasn't moved since the first time I saw it in person in Feb. My father bought his 36ft carver from this brokerage last spring after I sent him a link to this 298. The broker Dwight pointed him towrds the Carver instead. He still hasn't been able to register his boat since purchasing it in April due to paperwork errors. Some of the wait is due to the long process of documentation with the CG.To say that the people at this establishment (Sunset Bay Marine) is biggest group of incompetant a**holes is a complete understatement!! It's a great price but buyer beware on this one. I'm not just bashing here for the heck of it...this place really put our family through hell.

BTW my dad also almost made the mistake of not getting the compression tested as well as a survey since the boat "ran so good". This would have been a costly mistake since both engines had a dead hole caused by bad valves.

Good info. I did not know the boat was there. The Mariner Network in New Buffalo, MI that has the listing is a pretty decent stearlership from what I have heard. But since the boat is not actually there, I agree, buyer beware. I'm sure those pictures were also not taken last week either.

Well, maybe after a complete survey, $39K will take the boat if it checks out okay.

Good point Cap'n! I should say just to be clear that Dwight Moulder and the Mariner Network were not the problem... it was all Sunset Bay Marina. Actually Dwight is a good guy and really the only reason my dad continued to pursue this boat was because of the price of the boat and dealing with Dwight. Also I just spoke with my dad, and he told me that some of the interior panels in the cabin were starting warp possibly due to moisture on this boat when he looked at it last year. But on a side note from what I was told the owner is willing to deal or was willing last year. I guess with a good survey and limited exposure to the shady folks at Sunset Bay Marina someone could get a smoking deal on this one.

A bit dated for my tastes. I still can't get over how the camper canvas goes UNDER the arch. One of the main benefits to an arch is having lighting up there at night. Also, no genset.

This one has been on the market a while....possibly even when I was looking for my 225.

Anybody looked at the 298 for sale at Grand Bay Marine up in Traverse City? Under $40k. Says it MUST be sold by January 15th. Does anyone know this boat? Seen this boat in person? Had a cocktail on it?

She looks more like my 2000 model than a 2001 (port settee is not a 2001 model). I think she might be a mix of 2000/2001 hull/parts. As for the camper canvas going under the arch, there are isinglass cut outs directly under the arch lights. I don't really mind the canvas going under the arch because she folds up in one piece and tucks under (isn't that different for the later models?).

Look familiar? My 2000 model and same Captain's Navy interior.

As for being "a bit dated", this hull style went from 1999 to 2007 (correct me if I am wrong Cap'n) and the only big change that I have seen is more cherry veneer (although I think they changed the mid cabin from a flat berth to a berth/sitting area (which is useless on a 298 IMO). If you want something more recent, then you are looking at Cougarcruiser's 318V and you better have some $$$ for that upgrade.
