Post subject:  268 Vista Water in Bilge

Iv'e had water coming in to my bilge since I bought my 2001 268 Vista a year and a half ago. I've checked every conceivable place possible including all hose connections. I finally discovered what I think may be the problem. Whenever I'm at cruising speed and I slowly come to a stop I notice that the bilge drain hole on the outside of the boat is submerged for a short time.
Water comes through this hole in to the bilge. My question to anyone who might know is, does the bilge pump have a check valve built in to it? When the boat is on a the trailer, I hose tested this theory and water easily comes in to the bilge from the exterior drain hole.
Thanks,
John

JD, that's an interesting question. I never thought about it, but have never had that happen on my 268Vista. I always just assumed that the fitting for the bilge pump outlet hose was high enough for this not to happen. I will hve to look at the installation the next time I am on the boat. In the meantime, did you look in the OWners MAnual? You also may want to try to either call or email the 4 Winns technical folks. Let us know what you find out. Good Luck!
