hey guys,

time to do a little maintenance on the generator...

Where are folks digging up impellar, filter, parts references? I'm sure they are in my manual (which I do not currently have by my side).

Does anyone have any advice on what do to for an 'annual maintenance' beyond a fuel filter, oil filter, and impellar change?

Change the spark plugs. Had an issue with the genset running rough and it was the plugs. The first thing the kohler tech asked was if they were changed.

Just curious, do you have a seperate fuel filter for your genny, or is the genny pulling fuel through the fuel filter from one of your two main engine fuel tanks?

I didn't think I had a seperate fuel filter for our genny when I looked last fall while winterizing and changing the oil and oil filter on the genny. But now I wonder if maybe I overlooked the genny fuel filter and didn't follow the gas line in close enough? Hmmmm.......

I've got a big spin on fuel filter for the gen, as well as the small in line.

Zinc, impeller, spark plugs, oil and filter and you should be good to go. Pick up a Kohler Sea Spares kit so you have it all onboard if you need it.

Anybody know a good place to get a sea spares kit?

I am not sure I can even get one at Winnisquam...

A search of Kohler Sea Spares should bring up a few dealers. IIRC MTS or marine power service may be one.

I've got a dealer local to me who is great and cuts me a deal on all parts so you may try a local dealer.

+1 for partsfortechs.com
ordered 2 impellers today (PN 359978) 24.99 each
mtspowersystems.com is another good one but they just had a price increase

So how often do I need to replace the generator brushes? Or the spark plugs? My generator runs great...

I get the fuel filter, oil filter, impellar, anode... THose are the basics.

But what's the interval on brushes and plugs?

I may not need the 'sea spares' kid -- I keep fuses on board already. Can't seem to determine what else that kit has that I wouldn't just buy individually...
