I changed my impellor yesterday and it was relatively easy, but I'd like to smack the GM or Volvo engineer that decided it was a good idea to put the fourth screw in between the water intake and outtake valves. I knew there were four screws, I just didn't know where the fourth one was until I was leaning over the engine looking between the two hoses. I pretty much unscrewed it by feel and luck. I ran four years on the same impellor. It looked brand new, but I think I will add it to my spring to-do list for peace of mind.

Its so cheap, I do it every year for piece of mind.

I keep the one that I take out, on board as a spare. Haven't needed it ever, but good to have.

I replaced that bolt with an allen head bolt to make it easier to get in. It is a bad place for a bolt, so bad that the last guy who changed the impeller didnt bother putting it in lol.

Good idea with the allen head bolt. I like that idea. I also, like the peace of mind. I have the old one on the boat as a spare...

Also the volvo bolts are brass and can easily be broken. I replaced them with stainless
