Post subject:  manifolds / risers replacement

I recently purchases 2006 348 and love however I have a very noticeable rust on one of the Post engine riser / manifold gasket. It must be leaking as the first three plugs are rusted up (badly).
I have the 5.7 Volvo OSi_DF with the extra tall risers (12"). It is freshwater cooled and has nutrasalt system. The other Manifold/risers appear sound. Being new to the whole inboard setup does this mean it time to change all the manilfolds / risers or just gaskets. I have no idea if they are original or not. Electronic tracking of the motors suggest the may be original.
Also has anyone gone to a stainless riser/exhaust setup. Speaking to one saleperson he says they are the duck's guts offering long life , better fuel econ and more power. Sounds to good to be true. Next chap I spoke to says dont touch them because the can crack and clearly that will destroy a motor. They are also twice the price. Is anyone running these or have any real world advice. Any advice welcome.

I had some rust coming form one riser and had it looked at and there were no issues, so it was just reinstalled with a new gasket. Depending on if you are in salt or freshwater will depend on how long the manifolds and risers will last. For saltwater use 5 years is a good time to take off the risers and replace what is necessary.

I'm having ours replaced with genuine Volvo parts next year instead of doing it myself out of fear of having to deal with a broken bolt due to rust.

I put a set of Stainless Marine manifolds and risers on our 2005 V268 with a 5.7 Merc. Only have about 40 hours on the boat since installation.

I ordered them directly from the manufacturer, the cost was about $300 more than Merc parts, so I went that way.

There are a few obstacles to overcome when installing but not that bad.

Don,t know anything about Volvo set-ups, never owned one never worked on one.

If you decide on stainless PM me, I'll take a bunch of pictures with explanations.
