Have just bought my very first boat. A 2001 Four Winns 268 Vista. It has a Volvo Penta 260 HP 5.7 litre petrol engine. Purely as a matter of interest; what would she have cost brand spanking new?

About $60 to $68K U.S. dollars in 2001. Doubtful if many people actually paid that for one new.

Brilliant, many thanks for that. She still looks a million dollars to me

Greg, I left Brum over 30 years ago for the Arab Gulf and South Africa. I am now back in the UK in Norfolk, so I'm on the Broads and North Sea. Slightly cooler than the waters around Bahrain, Joann and Kuwait!

Gotcha. I left the UK with Mum and Dad in 65. Been in Canada ever since. Discovered boating in 2002. Bigger boats in our future hopefully.

Same here ! Will progress gradually to that mega cruise liner I've always wanted.

Bummer, just noticed that pre-emptive text on my Touchpad has put Joann instead of Oman in my last entry !

Have just booked a full day with an Instructor to show me all aspects of controlling a 268, I'll feel a lot more confident after that.

Have only got expereince on RIB's and dinky sized fishing boats with an outboard - so this'll be a tad different.

The instructor calls the 268 a 'Tardis' - bigger on the inside that the outside !

NOT THAT BIG! You can have 'em.
Try a Man Over Board practise exercise with one of those beauties.
