If your steering is a bit slow then be sure to check the steering fluid level. Ours had gotten a bit slow last season, only to be more or less inoperative this spring. Turns out the steering fluid was nearly empty. I refilled the reservoir at the steering wheel and now the steering is VERY quick. I haven't found where the fluid went. I suspect it's been a slow leak back near where the hydraulic lines go into the autopilot pump. I think it's been a slight enough leak to not be noticeable. But I'll be keeping an eye out to see if things get worse. So if you've got inboard engines with hydraulic steering then check and top-off the reservoir located right in the steering column. |

Just wanted to say hello to a fellow Four Winns owner I am waiting on my H220SS to arrive hopefully by this weekend. Will post pictures also when I get them. ![]() If you are really awaiting delivery on a used 2008 Four Winns bowrider, you won't need to worry about any steering maintenance on your boat, it's not an inboard.......... |

There's no such thing as no maintenance. There's just a different kind of steering gear in the inboards. With inboards your steering isn't tied to the engines running, as it's the steering wheel that pumps the fluid. Some outdrive equipped models (all?) require a steering pump on one of the engines do the work. |

Thanks for clearing that up Bill. I had no idea that there was maintenance to be performed on a boat. Steering or otherwise. |

On my last used boat search it seemed that many people think there is no maintenance needed on boats ever ![]() |
