I shoulda known as the 1 of those days. Went down to the marina to pick up the boat. Just spent 550 dollars on new bellows. Went to jump up on the boat, to raise the outdrive and the battery switch was left on. Look down below and the cabin lights and radio were left on. Ended up buying a new battery. Was racing the tide to put the boat in. Got a half a mile from launch in she overheated shot right up to 250 degrees. Thank God for sea tow they put me write my slip so I guess the next couple days I know what I'm gonna be doing probly repair replacing a thermostat. At least that's all I hope it is. Man 1 of those days.

LOL...just read the post and I used a voice dictation on my Droid..... Almost as comical as my day putting in! Have the thermo, just have to get down and swap it out....
Even worse than overheating, I had the thermo but listened to my dad..."you don't need to swap it out, it is holding a good temp" hooked up in the yard! LOL..that is all I can do, just laugh.

        :x :x :x :x :x :x :( :( :( :( :(

Two schools of thought there. 1) If it ain't broke, don't fix it and 2) Preventative maintenance / replacement.

For what it's worth, I would make the decision you made every time, even after a backfire like this one. Getting stranded on the water is much, much different than getting stranded on the side of the road.

Be aggressive with your your maintenance. Can't put a price on peace of mind. Had you not replaced the thermo, you'd spend all summer wondering when it was going to start sticking.
