Looking to install a windlass on my 97 vista 265.

Anyone have the set up and is it worth the investment?

I'd like to see a pic of your setup.

I put one on my 248. Now that I have it I would not own a boat with out it. I ended up putting the Maxwell 800 on. A little over kill but I got a good deal on. It had a fiberglass guy mount it and I did all the wiring.

Hello All, I'm a newbie on this site, so far it is very informative.

I"ve got a 2000 248 with the Volvo 5.7 DP, bought new in late 2000, and it has been great.

Upon delivery the ding done kid driving it to Wyandotte from Fenton Michigan got into an accident (rear ended a semi) and almost relocated my boat into the back of his pickup truck. Well needless to say the boat wound up on the top of the broken winch mount. Oh yeah, and driver never tied my boat to the trailer either.
The Dealer , the now defunct Lake Fenton Marina, repaired it very nicely and very much kissed my .....well you know. One of the many things they did for me was give me a Lewmar Windlass that someone had ordered and never picked up. It even came with the UP and DOWN deck switches to boot!

Now one of the posters mentioned putting one on his 248 and having to wire it up, funny thing is, mine was already wired for it! The boat was not available with a windlass, only the 268 and up (supposedly). Yet the helm switch was there, as well as all the heavy battery and switch wiring. . All I had to do is get a 50 amp breaker and mount it near the battery switch. I wasn't too keen on putting that huge hole on the top of my deck either, but it worked out fine.

Now sometimes it is a pain because of the line slipping, but I would not have it any other way. what a treat not having to tug the anchor up manually. Especially with all the muck (and Buick's) on the the bottom of the Detroit River.

Thanks. I put the windless on my 248. The wiring was all there for it but not large enough. I went overboard and put on the Maxwell 800. Got a smokin deal on it.

I'm not sure of the draw on the one I have, but she has not gone up in smoke with the stock wiring, so it must be OK.
Great on "going overboard" (no pun I'm sure). never have enough POWER!!

Mine was a freebie, so I could not complain too much, except for the fact they jacked up my boat.
