Trying to figure out a new anchor for my 298. The boat currently has a danforth/fluke style anchor. It works "ok" on my lake, not great, but ok. Its mostly a muddy bottom lake. The bigger issue is that the anchor hits the tip of the bow when its up and snug in the windlass. I am really thinking about moving to a Lewmar Delta Fast-Set. So, for those in the 288-328 size Vistas, what do you have and whats your experience? Would you pick this one: 14lb. Galvanized-Manganese, 21'–31'L Boat, 23-3/8"L x 10-3/8"W x 10-1/4"H for $135.00 or 22lb. Galvanized-Manganese, 25'–41'L Boat, 27-3/8"L x 12-1/4"W x 11-1/4"H for $190.00 |

On my 268, it had the 14# on it and in windy conditions it would pull loose at times. I went to the 21# with 20' of chain and never had another problem. |

Jeff, what style did you have on the old boat, and what do you have on your 318? The Delta or Fluke or ? |

I had the factory 15# anchor on my 268. http://www.fourwinns.net/partbook/showp ... 03&stop=NA &mx=1 Switched it out to a SS 15.5# and added some better ground tackle. I have 30' of chain, and about 200' of rode. http://www.marinepartdepot.com/newststdean1.html Biggest help I believe is the chain. I added some chain to my 225 with the same anchor, and it made a major improvement. |

I have the same factory anchor with 35' of chain and my problem is most of the time I cant get it unstuck in the mud if its windy or there is a lot of current - if its set right anyhow and that may take a few tries sometimes. Locals here swear by the Delta though, tell me to throw the talon in the trash, I may try one in the future. |

22lb Delta on mine. Don't forget about the chain either. Depending on who you talk to, you want anywhere from 15' to 30' of chain on a 298. That's something that I need to fix on mine one of these days. There's only about 6 feet or chain attached to my anchor now. |

Our 328 came with a 22 lb Delta Fast Set. I have been happy with its performance and it does fit well in our anchor roller. I just today purchased a used 35 lb Delta Fast Set from a boating acquitance who just purchased a new 38 foot Regal. He had used this 35 lb Delta as a storm anchor on his previous 36 foot SeaRay. My wife and I inserted the 35lb Delta into our anchor roller and it works but she's snug. When we anchor out overnight, I will sleep better knowing I should expect to wake up anchored in the same place. We have had seven boats rafted together through a bad thunderstorm with strong winds in the North Channel with rock shores close by on three side of us. Glad we had decent anchors to hold us. I think the best strategy is to go with the largest anchor that fits your anchor roller. There may come a time when you'll be glad you had that one up size anchor and the cost is not much different. My vote would be the 22lb Delta. Also the Delta can reset itself should winds or current change. The danforth likely will not. Mike |

I have a 288 and use 15 lb "Plow" or Bruce anchor, works well in the mud. Key thing is to use chain as well for part of the rhode. |

I think, but Im not positive I have the same one on the 318 that i put on the 268. I haven't been anchored with the 318 in some of the rough water I did in the 268, yet so i havnt had an issue yet with the one I have now. what are the waves like on your lake when its rough? When I had problems I was on the Saginaw Bay which is part of lake Huron. When we get a stiff North to Northeastern wind, it can get pretty rough. the one time that i decided on a bigger anchor, the anchor broke loose and bent the boarding ladder under the boat. the price of the damn ladder would buy 2 anchors. |

Wanna sell me your 22 lol. ----- Actually, I left the 22 lb Delta on my anchor roller as the majority of our anchoring is for day time use. I think my wife thinks I have an anchor fetish as we purchased a 33 lb SL Claw anchor (Bruce style) in good condition with 100 foot anchor rode last fall. It was too good of a price to pass up and I was thinking I'll use my two larger anchors (one bruce style and a Delta) both deployed off our bow to keep us safe and secure while on vacations were we plan to anchor in a couple different places for a couple nights. Twice now we have been caught with very windy conditions in an overnight anchorage and it gets tiring waking up every hour to check to see you haven't moved. I'm sure you can find a good deal on a 22 lb used Delta. Wouldn't one used Delta be equivalent to any one of your newly installed speakers? Just kidding, you have a great stereo, much, much nicer than mine.Mike. |

Yeah....I'm going to order one when I get back fro vacation. I didn't know you were collecting anchors lol. Reality is shipping it from Canada isn't very realistic in terms of cost anyway. Thanks for the tips everyone! |
