Anyone have suggestions for a smallish drop-down TV for mounting down below in the mid-cabin? I'm looking to put something back there for our boy. I'd prefer to have one that's reasonably child proof. Doesn't need to be anything other than a TV (who uses discs any more?). But it does need to be able to hinge up, close tight and stay closed when under way. There's not a lot of space to wall mount one as the cabinet doors have to be able to open. So a ceiling mounted one would probably be best. I may look into aftermarket add-ons for the automotive market. My plan is to use an iPod to provide video for it. This works great for having a bunch of favored kids shows handy. |

I added a small TV that we had lying around house, I think 12 or 15 inch. Mounted with the same bracket I showed you before in other thread. Put in corner on Port side (mounted to clothes closet.) Ran cable under bed, goes over to 12V connection and just use a small cigarette plug inverter maybe 100w). Kids love it. They are happy in their "Cave" !!! I dont do anything special underway, because its on diagnol in corner it stays put. And we do see heavy seas here in New England. |

sorry mistake. mounted on starboard side (more room in that corner). I like the dropdown. If i didnt have the spare TV lying around probably would hav done something like that. |

After not wanting to put a TV in there for my kids I finally broke down and did it, was afraid I would never see them again if I did. I picked up a 9" diag LCD portable TV similar to this: http://www.google.com/products/catalog? ... CE4Q8wIwAA I paid 60.00 for it and runs on 12v or 120 with a wart. I just did it the lazy way and uses a couple strips of HD velcro on the cabinet door in the mid berth. Has no problem holding the TV, weighs about a pound. Kids play PS2 through it using a small inverter and play ipod movies with the apple composite adapter. I dont use the antenna, DTV is rough here in the mountains, but it worked out well and if the kids break it or someone swipes it I'm not out much. |

Yes, our boy loves the 'hidey-hole' that is the mid-cabin. He's slept there several times already this season, quite happily. Which is a great turnaround from his skepticism last season. I'm leaning more toward the automotive accessory stuff. The upside with those is they also have wireless headphones, so he could watch his stuff without driving us crazy(ier). That and they're pretty durable. But I suppose there'd be issues with getting it mounted to the ceiling. The steps bolt through from the deck above. The starboard side area might not be as accessible. Thus your surface mounted TV is probably easier for that location. I'm inclined to treat that berth for sleeping with feet toward the port side, as the AC unit makes a bit of noise. Having your head over on starboard side seems a little more comfortable. So it seems like the TV ought to be on the port side. I'll have to sit down in there again myself to see what does or doesn't work. |

Or is there actually a composite video input on the TV itself? And the inverter is powering the PS2? Clever idea just using some velcro. That might be an alternative worth considering. The specs on it say it's a 200 line screen, just how terrible is the picture? |
