I have 2 Meercruiser inboards on my 2003 348 When at idle and low rpms I have a 2 beep alarm that goes off about every minute. All fliud levels are good and no other issues but this alarm is really buggy mean as I cannot find out what is causing it. I think it is a fume alarm but not sure why it is going off all the time at low speeds Thanks |

The engines are not overheating?? A impeller that is going bad will over heat the engine at low speeds. Just a thought. |

I remember a previous poster here having a similiar issue that was related to loose connections on the lanyard safetey switch. Let us know how it turns out. |

By fume alarm, do you mean CO or gas fumes? My CO alarms go off eventually if I travel at slow speeds with the canvas up, like when we troll for salmon. The only solution is taking down some canvas. At cruising speeds, I can usually get by with more canvas up. The gas fume alarm has a sensor in the bilge and a beeper on the dash. If this is the source, you really need to find out if it's real. I'm sure you know gas fumes in the bilge are potentially explosive. I tested mine with an unlit butane cigarette lighter, one or twice. It does work to find out what the beep sounds like. You have to use your nose to find out if the fumes are real and where they are coming from. |

it could be the CO alarm, in the aft cabin. Does it only happen with Canvas up running at idle?? |

Long post, cut and paste from Mercruiser service manual. Please note the number of items that will cause the 2bpm alarm. Also note they are all engine sensor related, not CO or gas fume alarms. ![]() Greg GENERAL INFORMATION SERVICE MANUAL NUMBER 36 Page 1A-24 90-864573 FEBRUARY 2002 Engine Guardian System General Description Engine Guardian is the focal point of the self-diagnostic strategy on these engines. It helps protect the engine from possible damage that could result from several faulty conditions. The system monitors the sensors incorporated on the engine and if a malfunction is discovered, a fault description is stored in thePCMand available power is normally reduced. By ensuring that engine output is at a low enough level, the engine is better protected from thermally induced failures. For example, if an open or short is found in any sensor, available power will be reduced to 90% of total, the AudioWarning System Alarmwill sound 2 beeps perminute (2 Bp/min) and the Smartcraft gauges will display a warning lamp. In a seawater pump pressure low condition, the maximum rpm will vary with the pressure and temperature of the engine and could be limited to idle in extreme cases of overheating, a constant beep will sound and Smartcraft gauges will display a warning lamp. IMPORTANT: Engine Guardian cannot guarantee that engine damage will not occur when adverse operating conditions are encountered. Engine Guardian is designed to warn the operator of an adverse condition and to reduce power by limiting rpm in an attempt to reduce possible engine damage. The boat operator is ultimately responsible for proper engine operation. SERVICE MANUAL NUMBER 36 GENERAL INFORMATION 90-864573 FEBRUARY 2002 Page 1A-25 Warning Chart The engine warning system incorporates an audio alarm and, if installed, Smartcraft Gauges System. When the key switch is turned to the ON position, the audio alarm will momentarily activate to test thewarning system. The alarm should sound once if the system is operable. do you have good raw water flow out the exhaust? are your strainers clean? When is last time you replaced raw water impellers? |

I had a simalar problem and it was a raw water sensor. There was enough flow for everything to work correctly the sensor failed and that was causing the two beeps that drove me crazy. I had the sensor replaced and all is good. |

I just had the same issue on my 2003 348 Vista and the issue was the Water Pressure sensors on each engine. Had diagnostics run and the code that came up showed that each water pressure sensor was were not giving any inputs to the systems so the sensors were bad. Just had the water pressure sensored replaced this weekend and it appears to have fixed the issue. Good luch |
