Got into thin water over the weekend. Genset muffled upon restart and was not pumping water. Koehler 5kva 5e-e model.Immediately shut genset down. Boat is now out of the water and I need to direct a hi and dri dockhand to the intake to check for sediment, etc and do not know where the intake is located. Can someone help? Should I attempt to restart the genset next time out or is the impeller fried for sure?

Thanks,

Jay

Jay, the genset thru-hull and strainer is located under the middle aft cabin cushion in the rear of the two storage areas. In that rear area you will also find the thru-hull and sea strainer for the A/C as well as the A/C wate pump. Loacate in there to is the sump for the shower which is also the catch basin for the A/C condensate.

You may have damaged the impeller, it's a bear to change. I would clear the sea strainer fort eh genset and start it up and see if it pumps water.

If you need to change the impeller, I'mll post the directions in another thread.

Genset needed an annual service (plugs, oil etc.) and indeed the impeller needed replacement.

$345.00 later.....

Thanks,

Jay

Yep, know the feeling. I changed the impeller on mine and it needed plugs, etc. $239 with the guy coming to the dealer to do the work.
