Gentlemen, the new owner of my previous 258 yesterday has filled waste water tank with fuel. The marina doesn't want to suck it out and he is scared to pump it out from bottom discharge. Any Idea? thanks (the only tip i was able to give him was: don't smoke in the toilet) |

Would it be worth calling an auto repair shop that specializes in gas tank repair. They should have equipment to safely empty the tank. Greg |

We have hundreds of Rectangular tanks, so we are providing you a great way to search for the size tank you are looking for. SEI’s Terra Tank is a collapsible bladder tank or pillow tank that has been designed specifically to store water, chemicals or fuel. The only thing that I would use is a manually operated (no electricity) hand pump to transfer the fuel out, and then remove and replace that tank. I keep saying that there needs to be some sort of safety feature on these fills/pump fittings.....besides us reading a small stamped cover that says "waste" or "water" Have heard of too many people doing this. |

just an update: local FW distributor will get in the boat, remove the device that "reads" the water level inside the tank and from that hole he will suck out the fuel mixed with...other stuff....using a manual pump. Anyway he suggests to the owner to change the plastic tank of waste water. |

I've seen different colored caps for waste and fuel. Like using a red one for the waste tank. As in, WARNING THIS IS NOT THE GAS TANK. Some folks are destined to keep others employed by their stupidity. It would totally disrupt the natural balance of things if there weren't enough stupid people going around. Just consider yourselves lucky not to BE the stupid guy (this time anyway). |

Not sure how things go in Europe, but here this is a job only he will be able to do. No septic / sewer guy that I know of will touch it, because there's fuel in it. No mechanic will touch it because there's poo in it. If it were me (depends on the placement of this tank) ... 1. I would pull the boat out. 2. Pull the drain plug 3. Jack the bow of the boat up. 4. Have plenty of buckets on hand to catch the ... stuff. 5. Put a tube in a tank opening. Drill one if you have to. 6. Pull a siphon, either with a squeeze bulb or your mouth, if you dare. 7. Drain it into the buckets through the drain hole. 8. Find a place to dispose of the tainted fuel. This will be difficult I imagine. Might have to get "creative". 9. Replace the waste tank. Craig, thanks but the stupid found proper help from the local FW distributor, I know the guy of the distributor who did the DIRTY job this morning, he said to me: "while getting the tank empty I was laughing" I asked why and he replied "I was thinking how much the job would have been expansive for the stupid"

He is not the first one to do this!! On the ocean, I have known boaters to go 5 milies out, but pour a whole bottle of Joy in before leaving the dock. Than pump it out into the ocean!! The Joy will reduce the chance of a spark and help break down the gas. The on board pump is ignition proof to begin with. Then pour in more water and Joy, never replacing the tank!! Now I am NOT tell you to do this, but this is what I have known other boaters to do. The real question is, how much gas is in the tank vs waste? |
