Sunday we returned from a great three day weekend in Newport RI coming back in flat calm seas and blue skies. What a pleasure after are trip there Friday morning with fog so thick that you could barely see 50 feet around you. As we approached the fuel dock, the admiral entered the cabin to retrieve the fenders and found the cabinet that holds the microwave detached from the rest of the cabinets. If you take a look at the close up at the upper left hand corner there is a backing plate that helps keep the weight of the cabinet from separating by the moment its own weight along with pounding seas can create. Well, three of the wood screws were never set at the factory, one has no threads engaged, and the second had maybe two and another has maybe 4 threads engaged. When this let go it ripped out the remaining wood screws as well and this is the result.

Note the fender I placed under the cabinet so we could get the mile up the Mystic River without causing more damage

Note the three screws

Fixable but shows poor craftsmenship, poor quality control, and a pissed off owner!

You are not saying how old the boat is. But, I feel your pain!!! If the boat is fairly new, I would send this (the pics) to the dealer and fix it myself. No matter what, it should not have happened!!

WOW  . Your are lucky there is no other major damage. I can't imagine how ugly this could have gotten in rough seas! Either way I would send some pic's to the dealer like Paul I said and maybe to the factory as well. Good luck with the repairs.

I feel your disappointment. We had a similar situation with a ceiling piece falling down and I saw that 3 of the four screws never engaged! My admiral would have really freaked if the microwave cab came down, condolences.

You might try reporting to FW and see what it gets you.

Hope Newport was enjoyable. That where I grew up, miss the great cruising opportunities. We are in Hampton NH now, made it as far as buzzards last year.

To answer a few questions’s the boat is a 2008. I never noticed that the bottom of my post’s no longer show the boat’s information.

I called the dealer that we ordered it from; though they are no longer a Fourwinns dealer he gave me a contact at the new dealership in my state. The person I was told to ask for told me to call another person at their dealership. This person was out of town and he was not sure when he would be returning. True, maybe, but doesn’t sound like a dealership that wants to help?

I emailed Fourwinns, but could not attach a photo to their websites email “contact” form. I explained that I would send photos to them if they returned my email with an address that I could respond too with attachments. Guess what no response.

We are within one to two years to upgrading to a larger boat (30 to 33’). Fourwinns is no longer on our list; SeaRay here we come!
