I have a Lewmar Concept windlass that is not pulling my rode up. It will lower the anchor and rode just fine, but the gypsy just spins around the rope when trying to pull her up. When I get to the chain, it sucks that up just fine. I've tightened the top with the cheap square head plastic tool as tight as I could, but still nothing. Is it possible the rope is to worn for the teeth to catch? Or could the teeth be too worn down to grab the rope? Thanks for any suggestions.

StirCrazy I have the V700 and have had this issue in the past and solved it by tightening the gypsy. I know that you stated that you did that already, but you said you have a plastic tool. My wrench is made of steel which I would imagine allows me to tighten it quite a bit more than a plastic one would. Are you convinced that you can't tighten it a bit more? |

I agree with Walter, mine too is made if steel. What about the arm that holds the rode in place. With out it, the rope is not going to grab. |

Thanks for the quick replies! I'm going to have to look for a steel tool. The last time I put the rode in manually and put the chain around the gypsy. A couple feet of chain were still hanging, so with the plastic tool I kept turning the gypsy with nearly all my strength, and it slowly pulled up the anchor and chain. The Up button didn't work that time because I (much later) found out the switch to the windlass was turned Off! Yeah, I felt stupid!  Paul, when you talk about the arm that holds the rode in place, are you speaking of the 2 rope tensioners on each side of the gypsy? Thanks |

I am not sure when you say "the 2 rope tensioners". Look at page 12 http://www.lewmar.com/assets/img/datase ... 22iss2.pdf They call it a control arm, it is #30. It puts pressure on the rope so the gypsy bites onto the rope. |

Yep, that's what I called the rope tensioner. In my manual, that's what they called it. What I did notice is that under yours it shows a torsion spring probably to help put pressure on the control arm. Mine doesn't have that, and it's not shown in the manual either. My manual showed far fewer parts for my older windlass. I agree if those control arms had enough tension, my problem could be fixed. http://www.lewmar.com/assets/img/datase ... nO_WEB.pdf |

I see what you are trying to say now!! That arm drives the rope in, with out it, it will not work. If it worked before, ether the spring is NOW missing or (for give me) you did not put it back together right. Maybe time for a new one?? |

Me not putting it back in correctly is definitely a possibility! I just boggles me why the spring isn't shown in my manual? Probably need to give Lewmar a call and find out. Thanks all |

Well, I did tighten up the gypsy again and it worked! I wrapped the rope around the cleat so I could really tighten it without the rope being pulled into the locker. Then I had someone push the up button at the helm while I applied some tension and it came up like a champ. I was pretty excited, thanks all for your advice! |

No, I used my cheapo plastic one and it worked ok. I did so carefully and watched that it didn't start to bend any. West Marine had the steel one, but it only had the "star" shape on the head. Mine needs the square head. I'm pretty excited to get this working, and hope it continues to do so. Maybe I'll have to tighten mine every so often to keep it working right.
