My neighbor is a retired Dallas Police Officer that is starting his second career in photography. He needed pics for his portfolio and wanted to have boat photos since we live next to the marina. He is hoping to drum up some business from the boaters in the area.

I thought it turned out great, other than the bumper we forgot to remove. :-( He said he could fix it ... I might let him doctor the photo, but this is the raw image.

Not a fan of HDR but to each their own! haha. Cool pic though, just needs a tad of bokeh (lens aperture setting) and a tad crop. Check out what a difference it can make with my half drunk 20 second edit.

This is entirely subjective of course - but I prefer the pathos afforded by the fuller background of the original. The fender's got to go, though. :lol:

For me, the edit is better, rule of thirds says that the interested subject should go on one of the 1/3 lines.

It's all just practice. The most important thing about photography is to have fun. Back in the 35mm days shooting many shots got expensive and it took along time to get the swing of things, but now in digital you can take as many as your memory cards will handle. If you never shot film and you start out in digital the most important thing is to not depend on the post processing. Take the time to learn to shoot the shot correctly, editing should be minimal to almost none. The best part is... it's FREE! and you don't have to wait a day to see the results hahaha


Also don't look at the LCD after every picture hahahahahha it's such a pet peeve of mine to see people do that :)

That's what I like about it. It looks like cross between a painting and a photo, rather than just a boring ole photo. He does all types of photography. I opted for the HDR.
