Magma Grill Mount

Hi guys,
I know there has been some discussions about mounting a grill and I just got the Magma grill and single pole mounting pole and base. I am wanting to mount it on the swim platform and was wondering if I am going to run into any problems doing this. I have looked at several pictures of your setups and I am thinking of mounting the pole in the middle of the swim platform in case I tie up to another boat, it wont be in the way. Besides mounting on the rails, where have you mounted the grill? I got the Magma Catalina Infrared grill with the pedestal mount.
Also, the plate that screws into the deck seems to be easy enough to do, the swim platform looks less than 1/2" thick. I am assuming there is no wood in the platform? Should I use any type of sealer on the screw holes?
Any suggestions will help.

There is wood in the platform and believe it or not, it took me 2.5" stainless bolts with washers and locknuts to get it properly secured.

I put mine on the port side, near the transom door. My theory was that it is closer to the galley and away from the swim ladder.

Your kidding? My platform looks as if it is about a 1/2" think and then on top of that you have the fiberglass. What did they use 1/4" plywood? Do we have the same platform? Doesn't seem right for some reason. Weird. I am going to have to look again.

Since I am in a 298....I cant confirm for sure how thick yours is....but mine really surprised me. Another thing is that the bottom is not one uniform thickness

You said you used 2.5" bolts, that just boggles my mind. I looked last night even stuck my head under there and really didnt see that it was that thick. There is the lip of the boat that hangs down about 4" all around it on three sides, but maybe I am wrong. I am heading over there tonight and will report back. Thanks for the info. How does the mount work for you? Seems pretty well built and from the reviews, it looks like people are happy with them.

It works pretty well, no issues yet and we have used it 5-6 times. Usually, we just grill sausages and dogs. I did some NY strip steaks a few weeks ago.

I mounted mine on the port side of the swim platform away from the ladder, I use myself as a shield for the little ones to keep them away from the hot grill. I used 1.5 inch SS screws and some white silicone to keep the water out. I have grilled every time I have been on the boat this summer, every day for 5 weekend trips. Hamburgers, Brauts, Pork Chops, Steaks, Stuffed Portabella Mushrooms, it all tastes better on the water!!!

As for stability, we were waaaaaaaay back in a cove at Lake O' the Ozarks and still had some Cobalts coming by, turning around pulling skiiers. There were some 2-3 foot wakes hitting us broadside making us tilt at least 10 degrees either direction, but the mount never even groaned. After about 6 or 7 wakes came through, I did start to get a little concerned, but she never moved an inch!

I love my Monterrey Grill and pedestal and it is by far the best modification that I have made to the boat!!!!!!

Ours is dead center on the back edge of the platform. Thought about mounting on the corner opposite the swim ladder but then we rafted up with friends about two days before the mount arrived and realized that location would make it hard to jump from boat to boat while the grill was on. We're happy with the location.

Coleman makes a skillet that fits on ours perfectly and we use it for pancakes in the mornings. Yummy!!

I've been looking at where and how to mount one of these to my H180. A post on the back would look too goofy. I think maybe I could do a flush mount on the back port side and not have it interfere with the bimini top if down, and also not be in the way of the ladder.

How do the mounts stand up to waves and wind? I don't wanna bend my grill doin 45 on the lake!

The pedestal mount is not a fixed mount. It has to come down when underway. It's about a 30 second process to disassemble and store it.

Ill have to take some measurements. Not much for storage on the H180.

I like whatever mount this is, found it on the web. That's exactly how I want to do it, if I have enough space to store it.
