What is the difference between these two engines: Quote: Volvo Penta 5.7 OSXi/XDP 320 hp
Volvo Penta 5.7 GXi/DP 320 The second one is a dual prop and the first a single prop. On the Four Winns site, the single prop is actually $1000 more and I would think it would be the other way around? Both are 320HP and fuel injected, I don't see any other differences. |

Both are Duo Props with the same engine but the OSXi (Ocean Series) version uses a composite material for the lower unit. On the advice of our dealer, that's the drive we went with. After a year in the Illinois, we saw a lot of corrosion on our Gi/DP. The assembly is also lighter. We should have ours in about 2 weeks. |

We had corrosion around the edges of the lower unit, on the side body of the assembly. Nothing terrible but since we were investing in the new boat that will be slipped for up to 6 months it seemed worth the investment. |

The OSxi also includes as standard the Neutrasalt system to protect the engine/ exhaust system from corrosion. No corrosion yet on my DPS drive, after 2 x 6 months in salt water. It is a GXi version, which has the active corrosion system as standard, which gives some more protection than anodes alone do. I would still have preferred the OSxi if I'd had a choice at the time though! Apart from the eliminated corrosion potential, as the outdrive is composite, there's also a wider choice of antifouling paints to choose from. Antifouling paints that can be used on the DPS are restricted to those compatible with aluminium. Graham |

Ok, I get it now. So the Ocean Series is intended for salt water boats, though it does have some benefit to fresh water applications as well. Since we bought our boat from the showroom we didn't have the option. But, our boat is exclusive to fresh water. |
