Post subject:  V358 Speaker / Audio on the Forward Sun Pad

The sound system on the boat is nice and loud, unless you are on the Sun Pad. To compensate for the low sound level, we simply crank it up louder to suit our taste. But now it is too loud under the radar arch after cranking it up for the people on the Sun Pad. No way to have a conversation with another person at the table without turning the volume back down.

I really don't want to mount speakers on the top hull near the Sun Pad. It would simply fill with water and leak into the cabin eventually. There are no vertical surfaces forward of the windscreen to put a speaker in.

So, I've been looking at the wake tower speaker tubes. Perhaps I could figure out a way to mount a speaker tube to the bottom of the radar arch and aim the speaker forward to the Sun Pad. Or perhaps put it on a swivel of some sort to shoot the sound wherever i need it.

I'm completely open to suggestions.

Best answer for an express cruiser with an arch. Speaker Pod with front and rear facing speakers.
Buy it unloaded and add speakers of your preference. (aka. Infinity 612M)

There was a guy on my lake that had a couple wake tower cans mounted on his forward stancions. They were pointed aft so if you were relaxing on the bow, you got plenty of sound.

Warning, Warning they ARE expensive. But the quality is top of the line. A friend has the pod on his arch, wired with a fader to adjust front, rear or both. That way if you are on the bow, and do not want to blast out the cockpit, just turn towards the front speakers.

I hope you are sitting down when you click this below..........

I've just recovered from my Coma. 8)

That fiberglass box is pricey, then i have to get all the other stuff to make it work. WOW.

I found these instead. Pretty Ghetto if you ask me, but significantly cheaper than the other solution.

I guess I could just screw it into the bottom of the arch and aim it where i want. Not a very clean look like the fiberglass ghetto blaster box, but it may get the job done.

The Klipsch type will do the job for much less, kinda tacky, but cost effective.
Another possibility, is these marine/motorcycle speaker pods. They are small, yet sound
pretty darn good. Less "obtrusive" than a large box on each side of the arch. These could also be
mounted to the bow rails.

I toyed with the idea of putting some pod speakers on the forward rail stanchions. The hard part is getting wires to them. Access under the stanchion mounts requires pulling a LOT of interior pieces apart. That and there's no guarantee the insides of the rails are hollow, as they're made from multiple pieces. If anything I'd be more likely to run something back from the anchor locker, but even then it's a pain getting wires all the way up there.

In the end I decided to skip the idea. It's nice to have some piece and quiet up there.

That and you're not subjecting everyone else on the water to listening to what you have playing. It's one thing to have the music focused in toward you and your guests. It's another to blast it out and away toward people that just don't want to hear it.

I'm trying to remember where I saw this, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. They took the top speakers out of the arch and replaced them with a flat plates. Then they mounted wakeboard tower speakers to those plates. This means you now have speakers facing fore and aft instead of straight down. The wiring is eay because it's already there.

I like that idea!

I think the pipe clamps on the tubes are removable. Hopefully it will leave a nice flat surface for me to mount on a flat round plate. Then i can mount the plate over the holes where the arch speakers were.

I think I need to head over to the local WEST MARINE and lay my hands on some tubes for research purposes.

Found this site with tons of junk: http://www.onlyinboards.com/ski-boat-accessories/Products/Speakers/Tower-Speakers.aspx

These have nice flat surfaces for mounting!!!
