| Post subject: | Kohler genny impeller problem |
Hopefully someone can assist me with this issue. My Kohler genny is showing me an error code (LOC) which is loss of coolant so I removed and checked the impeller and noticed that 2 of the 6 fins have been chewed up. I am concerned about just re-installing the new one because maybe the impeller pieces are stuck somewhere in the cooling system. My question is: should I be concerned about this or should I go ahead and just install the new impeller. If this is not the proper thing to do can someone give me direction on how to proceed. Thx |

You'll need to take both hoses off of the heat exchanger and flush it out. I would also recommend taking the pump off and flushing both the inlet and outlet hoses. When I bought my boat it had little broken pieces of impeller on the inlet side of the pump. |

Thx Firecadet, appreciate your quick response. When I look at the heat exchanger which is located at the top of the unit I see short hose (4" long) which comes from the bottom of the unit into the bottom of the heat exchanger....is this what you are referring to? Also how do I flush this, in other words I assume I am flushing with a hose but in which direction? Thx again |

I'd backflush.....put your garden hose on the far side of the heat exchanger. Also take out the zinc anode from it to help get more water out of it, and possibly impeller bits. |
