Well unfortunately I've got a long 6 months to get a couple of my vinyl windows, and screens replaced on my camper top. It was about 5 below freezing when I removed my top yesterday to have her finally shrinkwrapped. The front window, and one of the side curtains cracked in the process. I would also like to have my screens replaced as the previous owner ripped them out. Has anyone here done this themselves, or have any recommendations on where I can order marine clear vinyl at a reasonable price? Otherwise, it was a fairly smooth winterizing (had to use boiling water to melt the remaining snow and frost off the bow deck). Here are a couple pics of the frame we built and the final wrap. ![]() ![]() |

Unless you have a HD sewing machine, it will be difficult to repair/replace yourself. We have used a local canvas shop to replace screens and isenglass in the past. They have the knowledge and proper equipment to do it right, at a reasonable cost. Now is a good time to have it done while the boat is stored and the canvas shops are not busy. |

I suppose that's probably what I'll end up doing...I guess I'm really just looking for a winter project that I can handle ![]() |

Pull the prop and grease the spline, that can always help to kill one day as long as you add plenty of cold beer if not it will take you less than an hour. Crickey it's 5 below zero in Canada ![]() |

My 2002 268 Vista canvas was made by great lakes boat to co. I replaced my cockpit cover for much less than the four Winns price. Look at the tags on your canvas for the mfg info. |

Jafo4U wrote: Pull the prop and grease the spline, that can always help to kill one day It's a Duoprop, and I don't VP's special tool. Spose I could borrow one. I do have to get the river stains off the hull, but not really looking forward to getting into the muriatic acid ![]() Jafo4U wrote: as long as you add plenty of cold beer Got lot's of that. In Canada it's just beer. Keeping it cold is never an issue this time of year Jafo4U wrote: Crickey it's 5 below zero in Canada Ya, unfortunately that white stuff on the ground isn't sand. It was still t-shirt weather though once the sun came out and warmed the air up to a balmy 10c |

Ya, I've used great lakes for a canvas before. They do a good job for the price. My issue now is that I've got a few vinyl window cracks due to the factory vinyl not handling the -5c and cracking when I handled it. My canvas is great. No tears and not fading. I found some sites that are selling .30 with a -20c cold cracking rating for about $16 per yard. Seem like if I can find someone to do the labour at a decent rate, then it can be a relatively cheap fix. |
