Preparing for winter projects on my 2003 268. Has anyone replaced the tray under their generator? I have a kohler and the tray is in pretty bad shape. Does the generator have to be removed or can it be jacked up enough to remove tray? Where to procure replacement? Is the tray really necessary? Access is pretty tight with vacuflush, so any insight from past experience will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I noticed that no one has helped you. I have never had a genset, but in reading your post some things came to mind. Like you stating "Is the tray really necessary?" If the getset leaked fuel or oil at least it would stay in the pan & not get everywhere.Or you hope!! Maybe it is used as a heat shield?

To replace it, you need to look at the engine mounts, are they going though the pan or around the pan?

I'd say for sure you have to lift up the genset, and then replace the tray. I wouldn't remove and not replace, its there for a reason.
