Post subject:  Typical engine hours on your Vista during Boating Season
I'm curious what is typical engine hours for owners of our Vista's each season. We have been accumulating consitently about 55-60 hours a year on our boat and wondered if we were above or below average. We typically log about 3-4 hours total a weekend running out and back to our favourite anchourages on Georgian Bay. We leave on a Friday night or early Saturday, and come back Sunday evening. We could stay closer, but if you want the un-crowded isolated spots, you have to go a bit further than the majority.

I do about 40 to 50 hours a year. Doing almost the same thing.

If we averaged our last 15 years of boating, we would likely come in with about 55 - 58 hours per year.

Our boating season is early May until early October for us.

We have a nice blend of deciding to simply go a couple miles out from shore to drift or anchor for a while, or to a very large sandbar about 10 miles out.

In between the kind of weekend described above, we make runs over to the US side of Lake St. Clair (we are on the Candian side of Lake St.Clair) to enjoy a large number of nice marinas over there.

During our annual two week boating vacation to normally rotate between boating into Lake Huron or Lake Erie.

We live in Western Michigan and use our Vista from early May to mid October. I have launched in April a few times, but have decided that most April boating is just too cold. In the twelve years we have owned this boat, we had a couple of 100 hours seasons. For the last three years it has been about 55 to 60 hours. We like to take one or two long trips per year, and then the rest of the time is spent traveling to favorite anchorages.

We did about 60 hours this year. Over 100 last year.

This year was my first with the boat. It started with 70 hours and ended with 142 hours. I guess we get out more than the previous owner did. It was an amazing first year! The wife and kids are just dying to get back out there, we sure do miss it during these lonely grey days of winter!

Looking at the responses, I'd have to say we are pretty darn typical then, most people are in the 55-60 range like us. We also boat early May to mid October, so hey, there's only 3 more months to wait :shock:!! I'm really starting to miss our boat these days......

In a 6 month season, I land anywhere from 75-115 hours.

Typically 50 hours a season...Even with the skyrocketing gas prices, I will find a way to get out on the water... :)

Same with us, I hear you. Gas prices are a whole new post topic, we put about 3K through our boat this past summer. In Canada they bend you so far over, at the Marina's we pay about S1.48 / liter, converted to US gallon it's, wait for it, $5.60 / gallon :shock:

Those hours are a lot even for a bowrider and if true ric (which is possible because I used to put 200 hrs a year on my Vista when I first owned her), you just divulged the primary reason why the HOA cockroaches want "No Wake Zone" signs on your private lake. You have violated the standard of boat ownership and that is you are using your boat too much. LOL.

Since Michigan is around an hour boat ride for us we try and fill our Vista's 220 gallon fuel tanks before we boat back into Canada. Added bonus is a number of the US marinas sell mid grade fuel. Makes sense to save when we can, boating ain't cheap.
