I would check this link. If you do a search, often you can answer your own questions.

The boatless one (Beyond the Blue) can probably give you some specifics since he had a 238V.

Forgive me, but you must install the roller before you can install the windlass.

On the roller, dry fit it first. If the roller is not mounted far enough out, the anchor will be hitting the boat. Use a backing plate, or large thick fender washers. This will spread out the load. In my case I had to move the running lights.

Download the specs on the windlass you want. Make sure you have the space above and below the deck. Also, check for wires that might be in the way. On a boat like yours, you will need to use 6awg to 8 size wire depending on how much wire is needed & windlass.

Thanks for the replies. My 238 isn't going to be easy to install windlass because of the bow light and remote spotlight being installed on anchor locker lid. I've decided to install anchor roller at the very front of my bow. This past year I seen a a similar vista 238 with an anchor roller and and the anchor rope was directed to the starboard dock line cleat and then the dock line went into the locker. It's just awkard to drop anchor with the shape of rub rail. I'll spend the money on a swim platform instead or A nautical napper(h2omarinesupplies.com). Which one do you guys think?.

Quite right. There's not much room for anything on a 238.
