We stayed on the this weekend and ran the AC. It ran fine but we started smelling something that was like a starting to burn smell. It was very slight but I could tell it was coming from the AC vent. I checked the discharge and there was no water coming out. The pump and strainer are located under the aft berth. I checked the strainer and it was clean. While I had the top off, we turned on the AC and water did not pull from the reservoir toward the pump ( not real sure if it would since the top was off). I couldn't hear the pump working but don't usually hear it when it is. Anybody have any ideas? Thank you

Coupling your two messages (fuel pressure test, and A/C failure), I suspect you have a rusted pump motor housing, Monica. The sheen you think is fuel might be oil from the A/C pump, dumped overboard via the through-hull, before the pump failed altogether. The smell, then, might be from a warm, stalled-due-to-rust, pump.

So...we're back on the boat this weekend thanks to this warm winter we're having down south. After we left last time we called our mechanic and asked him about the pump not pumping water out. He asked if we had it on ac or heat. He says the cooling pump doesn't run when the heater is on. So this time we tried the ac and the heat. The pump runs on heat but not on ac. So my question is...is it supposed to pump water when it's on heat? And if it is does anyone have ideas on why it would Pump on heat but not ac?
Thanks!

My guess would be a faulty switching realy. Not sure what kind of A/C unit you have. The Cruisair units have a board that does this function

If your AC is a reverse-cycle unit the coolant pump must run in both cool and heat modes. If it is an electric heat unit, the pump will not run when heating.

Well....I'm embarrassed to say we didn't have the thermostat down low enough. The fan was running but until we turned the thermostat down to 68 the cooling unit didn't cut on. When it did water started pumping.
Thanks everyone!
