Hi there ,well my 268 vista has finally arrived ! I have had her fully serviced and tuned up,had her out for the first splash on sunday and she went very well with no problems.I did however notice that at wot she only managed to pull 4200 rpms with 4 adults on board. From what I have read she should be wot at 5200rpms.The engine is the 5.7 gxi and duo prop(with stainless steel f4 props). What size props are other 268 running? thanks in advance,Mike

This may not be a prop issue at all.

The engine controller will limit RPM's if it cannot get a read from a few of the sensors needed for the EFI system. I.e. if the coolant sensor, AIS sensor, or oil pressure sender is giving erroneous/intermittent readings, the ECM will put the motor into a sort of "limp home mode" and limit RPMs from reaching WOT.

If you go to the Volvo's web sit, there should be a prop selector page http://www.volvopenta.com/VOLVOPENTA/NA ... guide.aspx

On the other hand, I too had the same problem 2 weeks ago!! I have a V258 w/5.7 duo-prop. We had 4 people on board too, my wife is about 140lbs, me at 165lbs, I had a full tank of water and the fuel tank was over 3/4 full. My wife is saying to me, "why are we going so slow??" The other couple each, weighed in at about 190 to 200lbs. The wife did not believe me and yes the RPMs would not go over 4K. The boat was laboring, due to the added wight!

Our 2003 268 with the Gi-DP uses F4 props. The Gxi for this year also uses F4s. We have no trouble reaching max RPM (above 5000) with a full load. You should have no trouble reaching max RPM with F4s and the Gxi. As noted above, you likely have an engine issue or you do not have F4s.

What other indicators are there if the engine is in limp in mode? Just recently I noticed my engine stumbles at throttle tip in off idle, and I also have problems hitting max rpm. I'm assuming that maybe my TPS sensor has developed a bad spot, and I was planning on doing a voltage sweep to test it. Is there any way to pull DTC's without a high dollar VP scanner?

I have a 248 with the VP 5.7 gxi. It takes a while, but I can get on plane and run fine with 8 people on board. The rpm's aren't really affected by the weight, just the time it takes to get on plane and be able to trim up.

I recently had the same issue on my '02 268 where I could not reach full rpm at wot with a full load. I had no sensor issues or warning signals. The boat ran fine with a lighter load. After some testing, turned out to be a bad fuel pump. Had new pump installed and she now runs like new. My mechanic tested the fuel pressure and found the problem to be a bad pump under load.

I've just had my 2006 Vista 278 engine replaced with a brand new GXi 5.7l.
On the sea trail yesterday all she could do was get to 2200rpm??? The mechanic was saying that as I've down graded in engine size from the OSi it may be that I need to drop prop sizes. Could that be correct? It sounds as though you all using F4's with the 5.7l? The V278 is obviously slightly heavier but only 2200rpm??
My boat has been out of the water for 12 months now as these local service guys are incompetent. New charger, new starter, overhaul stern drive, oh no sir looks like there is salt water in 4 pistons...replace engine and now this....This is killing me - any help appreciated!!

2200RPMs is not good at all.

F4's are what I have on my 268, and we can hit 5k RPMs.
