HI, I just picked up a nice 278 at auction. I need some help figuring things out. First off, I don't think I have the cushions that make up the mid berth. I see the table sits in between the two seats, seems like cushions are needed to lay on top of the table. My Sea Ray uses the seat backs to fill in. Second, where you step down to the aft berth. Before you insert the 2 cushions that fill in the little step area...there is what appears to be a table leg mount. It has a small opening to a leg, maybe. It looks just like the mount on the floor out in the stern seating area. Way too small for the dining table leg to fit in. It would be great to get a few pics of what the mid berth is supposed to look like and if anyone know about the table leg stand that would be great too. Any info that you all would like to share about hte 278 would be great. This boat has twin 4.3l with volvo duo props. A/C, no generator. Thanks to all. JEFF |

Welcome Jeff! I'm sure you will get some answers soon. Where are you from? Pix of the boat? |

Hey Jeff, I have one - see my signature... There are extra cusions that fill in the table top when converting it to a bed. For the aft berth area, there's a separate table and post that you can also use in the rear deck area. I don't use it too often so it's usually stored in the closet area in the aft berth. Kids might like it in the aft berth area but other than that it might be a little more useful up on deck. I'll see if I can snap a few pics of the cusions and that table this weekend. These boats are pretty solid. I bought mine in 2006 from a guy that didn't use it much so it looked and still does look like new. I built an extended swim platform, which these boats desparately need, but it took some very stout transom brackets to make it work. The swim platform area wasn't built very strong so you really can't attach anything to it. Welcome, and don't hesitate to ask if you run across anything. People are very helpful in this forum. Joe |

Great thanks. A few other things I just noticed. how do you lock the cabin hatch once inside the cabin? Is there a curtain or something in the inside of the cabin hatch for privacy or to block out the sun? I don't see a please for one. Thanks |

I was able to get a couple pictures of the mid berth cusions and the rear table/post: ![]() ![]() ![]() I didn't realize the one of the table was blurry until I uploaded it but it at least shows the general shape. As far as your other questions, I don't know that you can lock yourself in the cabin. At least I never noticed a way. Even if someone locked the companion way, you can still push the tabs from inside and unlock it. There's no curtain on mine either. In daylight no one would be able to see in but at night with lights on, you can see inside pretty easy. Joe |
