I cannot see any visible markings on my stern drives, likely they've been painted over. Anyone know the actual model number that came with the 328 in 1999? As far as I can tell, my engine is an 1998 OMC 5.7 GSI, BY model. I know i have Dou prop, but have no idea what model number (for when I'm looking for parts) |

In 1999 it'd be a VP 5.7 GSi with a DP-SM drive. The transom shield would be a SX-M or as an outside possibility, a SX-MHP (that's usually fitted with the V8 big block, but not always; my 2004 5.7 GXi has one). The SX-M has one anode held on by 2 bolts, the MHP has 2 smaller ones, both held on by 2 cap head ("Allen") bolts. |

If you can't figure it out, email Four Winns with your Hull ID and ask them what was installed when she was built. I had to do that with mine. Also, look on the port side of one of your drives behind the outer outdrive trim cylinder, there should be a plate (probably painted over) that you might be able to remove the paint to get the model and serial numbers. Good luck. |

My boat is out of the water. I am planning to go see it tomorrow before they put it back in so inspect the bottom job. I will see if I can determine anything on mine. |

Good luck. I called FW and all they could tell me is that it's a 195 DP, 195 is the gear ratio I guess. I don't think it does, but does that help identify it at all? |

Cool, everything so far points toward the DP-SM, I'll continue to believe this till proven otherwise. Thanks for the help everyone. |

if you send me your engine serial number I can get you model, serial, and spec numbers on all three pieces (eng, trans plate, drive) through our volvo penta dealer site but it is a DP-SM for parts purposes |

That would be great, can you look it up even if it's OMC? Engine Serial Numbers (5.7GSI) t01312055 t01312059 Hull: fwncv008c899 |

Those serials numbers gave me a little run around. Yes I had to use the OMC software which is about as advanced as a rock since it's MSDOS based (terrible!! when its 2012!!) Looks like the boat originally was sold in Canada which may be why the serial numbers weren't looking good to me. So not much info other than its a DPS-M drive. Sorry... OMC site says the motors are 57FCPBY models and Four Winns site says they are 5.7GSiPWTR models (Volvo term). You're right before the motors went all volvo.. the serial numbers would have been 401xxxxx or 411xxxxxx numbers and I could have done more with them. |

Thanks for the info! At least I know for sure now that the stern drives are DP-SM. Technically the original owner lived in Burlington, I'm in Oakville (the cities are right beside each other). I remember DOS, boy that was a long time ago. Thanks again! Steve. |
