| Post subject: | Fueling Up |
Every time I fuel up I need to be very careful. I periodically overflow when fueling out of the fill. Is there anything anyone has installed to prevent this, or am I the only one having this problem. I have read you can install a fuel whistle in the vent line but I have heard that they are very loud and annoying when fueling! Suggestions Please!! |

Make sure to place the nozzle as far in there as you can, and place it on the lowest setting. I've found that helps a lot. |

Its a big problem, I found if I lean over and listen real hard you can hear it getting close and shut it off before it spills over. The best way is to pay attension to you gallons and gauge, in our 268 (70 gallon fuel tank) when I'm at half I only put in 30 gallon. |

Thanks for this post - I thought I was the only muppet that ended up with a litre of premium on my shorts whenever I filled! The only cure that I have found is a quarter squeeze on the filler and a lot of patience. |

I keep track of how much fuel I will need to put in according to my Flow Scan meter then put it on the lowest setting once I'm about 10 gallon away from full. The first time I filled our boat up was when it was being delivered. I put the nozzle on full blast and pulled it out after it shut off only to get showered with what must have been a gallon of gas

Personally, I never full it unless I am making a 50+ mile trip. I just put in enough to bring it up to 3/4 of a tank, roughly. That generally last me 2 to 4 weekends. My thought is, way carry the extra wight in fuel. I have a 70gal. tank & burn about 10 to 12gals. each week end. |

Since fuel has gone up considerably in recent years, we typically only fill tanks full (220 US gallons) when we boat over to the US. US marina fuel is normally cheaper than marina fuel in Ontario, Canada (our home port). If it wasn't a deal to fill up in the states, we too would likely only fill to 1/2 or 3/4 full depending on boating plans in coming weeks. A little thing, but with less fuel in tha tanks it helps keep the water line scum within the bottom paint area. With the fuel tanks half full, the water line at stern is about one inch below from the top of the bottom paint lines. Full fuel and the water line and bottom paint line are almost the same. Add people and gear and water line is above bottom paint. No I don't want to raise the bottom paint line at the stern, it then gets to close to the pin stripping.  Mike. |

After the first time this happened to me, I've started watching the fuel needles while fueling. 1. I kill the motors and then flip the ignition switches back to on . . . without starting. 2. I do a quick estimate in my head to figure out how many gallons will be required. 3. Keep one eye on the needle, the other on the meter. 4. When approaching the full indicator line, I run over and stop pumping. 5. repeat on other side. |
