Anybody have any issues with their generator with oil leaking out of the front main seal? That was a nice Monday morning thing to learn yesterday. Requires the genny to come out to repair, which means the starboard motor has to come out toe get the genny out! I hate it when that happens! :x

BOAT or in this case 2+!

Generator has 320 hrs on it. Went and took a look at things yesterday. The motor and generator are out and check this out the front crank seal was installed crooked. It had to come from Kohler like that. Grrrr!

I asked them to call Kohler to see if they would participate, but I don't have much hope they will. I must have a Monday morning or Friday afternoon built unit! :x

Kohler is actually a very good company. When I was a kid I raced go-karts professionally and was sponsored by Kohler race division (when they had one). When I needed something, it was in the mailbox the next day no questions asked. They might not fit the labor bill but you might get the parts needed to fix.

Well, I recieved some good news. The generator has a 5 year warranty on it and the oil leak is covered! Not sure what the savings will be , but Im sure it will cover pulling and reistalling the generator, along with the work on it to repair it. Im sure Ill have to cover the starboard engine removal.

The bad news is both raw water pumps need to be replaced, they said they are scored up badly, and Im having the plugs replaced while 12 out of the 16 can be done very easily. Also my raymarine transducer is bad, the sea temp read 320 degrees. The thermistor was junk, so a new tranducer while you can get right at it with the motor out.

So any savings I had, I probably spent and then some on the other odds and ends. I guess part of owning a boat.

Suprised all those issue's on an '08!

Here's hoping Kohler steps up and covers the motor R&R, it'd be a nice surprise!

My airmar transducer went up too. Reads random values nowhere near current conditions. But I don't plan on replacing it, at least not until I have some other reason to have the boat pulled. it's a combo depth/temp and the depth part still works. I might even go with a different depth transducer as I've never really been happy with how the placement of this one doesn't work very well when up on plane.

Now we are thread hijacking!

My transducer went out like jsimon's. Depth works, but the water shows 200+ degrees.

The boat gets hauled in a few weeks for bottom paint and drive service, so I will have it swapped then.

Good to know its a common problem.
