Post subject:  Garmin Fuel Flow Sensor Location 268 Vista

I purchased a Garmin GFS10 fuel flow sensor last year and will be installing on my 268 Vista. Any 268 owners installed one of these? If so, I would like to know where you installed it and if you installed an additional fuel filter between the fuel tank and the sensor. There is not much room on the firewall in the engine compartment on my 268, particularly with the auto fire extinguisher mounted on the wall. Any comments and pictures of your install would be greatly appreciated! Also, has anyone tied into the fuel guage sender at the tank and found the functionality to be worthwhile?

On my 268 I had removed the supply line to the fuel filter, plug it in, and get a 6" section of fuel line to go from the top end of that to the fuel filter housing. No additional filter needed, and this way if it leaks you can take it out.

No issues at all, I'll be adding it to my next boat. Don't bother hooking up to the gauge, its not needed.

Firecadet,

Did you attach the sensor to a solid surface (like the firewall) or simply attach the sensor in-line with the fuel line? just wondering since the instructions say to mount away from the engine on a solid mounting surface. Mounting in-line with the fuel supply line would make it much easier.

Just use a big zip tie and tie it off to the big cooling system hose that is right there. That was solid enough for me. I had no issues with it.
