2003 248. Need new screens for the side port holes. Do I have to replace the entire unit (glass, etc) or can I get a new seal and screen?

Thanks for the information. I found that part number on fourwinns.com as well. It took a call to Four Winns to get the actual Lewmar part number (30069000). I called Lewmar and they stated that my portlight was obsolete and they didn't carry any parts for them. I could purchase a new "Atlantic" series portlight (39132090). Only problem is, they couldn't tell me if the bolt holes will line up.

Seems an awful waste of money to purchase 4 new portlights, but I'm not sure there is an alternative.

All I can think of to try is to purchase the fly screen for the new Atlantic portlight and hope it will fit mine.

Any suggestions?

Craig C.

Thats not good news, and some what suprising. I was able to buy a new hatch screen last year, I'm shocked you can't get a screen for the portholes....

I plan to try the local dealer tomorrow (they were closed today). When you got your screens, did they come with a new rubber seal? How did it attach? Did you have to use some kind of caulk? I ask because that is the way mine appear to have been installed. When I explained this to Lewmar, they didn't understand what I was talking about.

My portlights have a rubber seal (the glass presses against it). On the outside of the rubber seal is where the screen attaches. There is a rubber lip on the seal that fits into a metal channel on the portlight. I fiddled with it for a few minutes and couldn't get the rubber lip back into the metal channel (granted my motor skills were lacking after a few frosty brews). How did you do this?

I purchased a new hatch screen for the hatch in the top of the cabin. That just holds in place by 4 small tabs. The ones for the portlights came with the boat, and they just snap into place. You aren't supposed to leave them there while you close the windows, although every 268 I've looked at and seen in pictures has them in there with the port glass closed.

Ah, I understand now. You have a 2004 model Vista. 2003's had "glued" in screens. They glue in behind the rubber seal. I'm jealous of those that have snap-ins. :-)

I am going to purchase a snap-in screen like yours and try to make it work on my portlights.

Wow, I didn't realize that before. Now I'm really glad we held out for an '04! If you can get the snap ins to work, they are fantastic!

2000 268 Vista's have snap in screens as well. They should be in all the time, and not taken out unless you want to clean them or something. The port lites shut just fine with the screens in.

The port windows don't shut "just fine" they shut.. But they do not seal the same as they do with the screens out.

Hey Craig,

wondering how you made out replacing your screens a few years ago. I figured dig this up before starting my own thread.

I wonder how difficult it would be to peel the glued in seal off, and re-use it?

What a pain that they glued the seal in to begin with.

Thanks
