Post subject:  VDO Gauges

Anyone have any contact info. part numbers, price estimates or other info on replacing the Siemens VDO gauge cluster with a reliable replacement or individual gauges?

I have read quite a bit on this issue over the years, and have basically ignored it for too long. I have an upcoming 2 week long journey and really do not want to do it blind (no engine temp, oil pressure, tach, etc)

Any information would be helpful, even part numbers might expedite things with the dealer, and get me past the typical "Not sure what problem you are talking about" routine.

Thanks,

J

Four Winns makes a complete gauage cluster. I replaced mine a year ago on my 258. I can't remember the cost. Call factory parts and they will give you the part # to order.

Someone posted photos awhile back on the Yahoo FW Club of the retrofit they did.

Four Winns replied and sent me the following information. If anyone else has to make this decision I hope this is useful. I will try to find a way to post the pictures they sent.

We carry both the VDO cluster under our part number 025-1970 and a
retro fit gauge cluster with individual gauges under our part number
025-3118. We have positioned the retro fit option with a policy pricing
to make this an affordable option.

Please see the attached photo for confirmation.

Glad they were able to help with a couple of options. The pics would be nice when you get a chance.

Did they give you any idea on the prices?

I can not seem to find anyway to upload pictures to the new site, but as for pricing, the local dealer told me it will be approximately $500 for the retrofit option parts plus about 1 hour in labor ($75) I tend to take their labor time etimates with a grain of salt, but approximately $600 was well worth it to me to stop being blind to any engine issues.

I was very impressed with the speed and helpfulness of the Four Winns corporate response, they also cc'ed the local dealer basically giving them a heads up as well.
