Question; My manual pump Jabsco head will discharge but I am not sure how it should function when attempting to add water to the bowl. Should it mimic a land toilet and disperse water from the underside if the lip or should it just fill from the bottom of the bowl. I can add cups of water and evacuate the water but just can’t seem to add water to the bowl. The seacock is open and I have tried to start a siphon motion by disconnecting the top hose at the pump, pump it hard then hook the hose back up but no luck. The boat is a Vista 238 and I am new to boat ownership and have much to learn. Any advice for the newbie is appreciated.....

I can speak for mine when I say it does mimic a regular toilet, meaning, liquid is dispensed from around the top lip inside the bowl. Hope this helps...

Thanks TAZ, that gives me an idea of how it should work. I have heard through other sources that it may be the "joker" valve and it needs replaced. I haven't talked to anyone that has the same issue as I do to confirm that it is the joker valve so at this point its speculation. Thanks again!

Could be, I just replaced the whole unit. Ran lime $159.00 at West Marine plus they had a $50.00 rebate.

I replaced mine with this http://www.hodgesmarine.com/Jabsco-12v- ... click=7482 a Electric Conversion Kit.

Works great, pumps water in & sucks the soilds out at the same time.

TAZ and Paul,

Thanks for the replies. I would like to have an auto electric but not sure about how to wire it. I will check it out and if it’s not too difficult I may go that route, if not I will just replace the manual pump. (I am more mechanical than electrical savvy)

I hate to recommend somewhere other than here, but the guys at in the boatered.com sanitation forum know this stuff better than anyone. You have to sign up for a free account to read the sanitation forum but they don't spam you. You don't have to get a paid account.

If I remember right, the joker valve holds water in the bowl but does control the water entering the bowl. But I never own a manual toilet.

It is real easy to do. Just come off of one of your batteries using #10 wire. The instructions that it comes with are very good! Whats great about this (other than wiring) it takes about 15 min to install. Four bolts for the base, and two hoses. One to the bowl and one for the raw water. I well say, its noise, but it works and it uses less water so the tank last longer between pump outs.

jrcinnh,

Thanks for the info. I will check that out. Certainly sounds like they are the SME's on marine heads.
