Post subject:  Cruisair error code HI PS
Does anyone have experience with a plugged condensor for Cruisair air conditioning. I am getting a "HI PS" code on my controls. The fresh water supply valve is open and works, I have cleaned the strainer, the pump is working. No water is coming from the overboard discharge. Getting ready to take apart fittings at the unit to attempt to clear obstruction in the piping. Any ideas. I have a 2008 V318.

Thanks for all the info. Went back and tried it today after sitting overnight and it worked fine. Good flow out of the discharge port. Great day on the lake today. Lots of sun and 74 degree water!

You can try:

1.) clean the evaporator and condenser core / fins
2.) Check connection of the HP sensor. The hp sensor is on the high pressure discharge tubing (small diameter line)just after the compressor 2-wire plug-in.

Sounds like you have an air pocket....very common. The Hi pressure fault code occurs when the a/c compressor starts to run but no water is pushing thru to cool the condensor side on the sytem. I've had this happen everytime we trailer the boat or it's hauled out. If you take a garden hose and stick it in the thru hull where the A/C water is supposed to come out and back flush. This will push the air pocket thru the system and out the bottom of the boat. DO THIS WITH THE A/C SYSTEM SHUT OFF! Should take about 15 seconds. Turn system back on and try again...it should now start pumping the water and you will have A/C. Good Luck!

The pump usually will not pump water when dry. The goal of all these tricks is to get water into the pump.

Sometimes just going for a ride will push the air pocket out.

If not, the method Bliss36 suggests usually works.

The other approach is pulling the strainer apart, opening the seacock for few seconds until the water flows, then quickly shutting it. Then put everything back together.

The hose backflush works great but, if you're going boating anyway, just open the seacock and put the boat on plane. You'll probably see water dumping overboard from the A/C coolant outlet through-hull; if you do, the pump is primed.

After posting this last weekend I trailered to another location and had this same problem. I didn't bring my water hose with, but instead came up with a MUCH easier way to do this! I took my foot bellows used for filling my inflatable, swithed the hose to the deflate side, and with the A/C on I put the hose over the thru hull and pumped the bellows twice! The vacuum created pulled the air pocket right out...worked great and is easy to store a small hand pump!

Has the OP determined that no coolant was his problem, I wonder? [Later edit, answering myself: yes, he added on to his first post that he had AC the next day.]

FWIW, I submit that the easiest way might be to push a button for a few seconds, although it took some plumbing and wiring. I got tired of needing to find a hose, get down to the waterline and flooding the pump via the through-hull. I considered a bleed valve that was more accessible than lifting the engine hatch (a PITA) and settled on a scheme that fills the pump with fresh water via a 24vAC irrigation valve and a check valve between the AC pump inlet and the pressurized fresh water system. If the pump needs priming, pressing a momentary-on switch for a few-seconds does it.
